Megamod not working CTD when starting a BG1 game

been a while and it seems i got rusty with the installation magic. i had browsed through the available installation order topics but it seems i made a mistake somewhere. someone with a better memory please review my weidu.log :

launching the game works, i get the CtB Gui and select starting new game, not new BG2 game. half of the loading screen gets done but then CTD.

Do you see a MessageBox or is it a clean Crash to the Desktop?
Also have a look at Baldur.log / Baldur.err to see if there are some messages that help debuging.

You did not install the biffing at the end of the installation. So it's no wonder that it will take ages to load...

uhm i have no problems with the loading times. despite the long mod list this megamod does not contain any megamod-class mod except CtB and the BG1 ones...

loading is pretty fast and it should be with my machine, it just crashes when having loaded 40% of what it wants to load, which is done in ~2 seconds.

this is no BWP installation.

i can successfully pre-create any character and class using the multiplayer pregeneration, so the classes and char improving mods seem to be ok. must be something with the installation order or incompability between the other installed mods. any ideas ?

Seeing as you're crashing going into both starting areas, Candlekeep and Chateau Irenicus, it doesn't seem area related.

ToB was working for you, so I guess it's not your UI mod.

It could be anything really, I guess. You didn't accidentally install a tutu version of something did you, or otherwise non-BGT? I'm told that can do bad things sometimes.

A thought. There are no NPCs around when you enter a game of ToB. Try going through it til you can summon some companions. I'd be especially interested in Imoen.

Did you try to start the "Tutorial"?... as that's the BGII:SoA start in the CTB QUI, if I know it correctly.

The other only works if one enables the error logging within the baldur.ini by putting the "Logging On=1", without the quotes into it under the Program options, the cause for the crash might be caused by the baldur.bcs file, or the like...

@Jarno Mikkola: Logging, cheating, bloodpatch all is enabled by the BWS. Since I guess that there are not that many guys who fetch and extract the mods manually, I just presume that it is enabled.

That's a good point in BiG World MM's...
But as Bloodtitan said, this is not BiG World Mega Mod, it's made by his own hands... without the BiG World Install.bat, nor BiG World Fixpack, or... it doesn't apply.

that's right, i am megamodding BG2 games longer than BWP exists and i never felt like switching over. that said, with the improvements i made the game difficulty of the stonehead encouter with the first bhaal child is way too difficult for a single character starting with vanilla ToB xp and items... i can get there however and no crash. do not feel like cheating :(

i installed a mod that makes imoen swash buckler, could that be the culprit ?

the tutorial button does not exist. it's replaced with "new bg2 game" while new bg game starts the bg1 part.

Probably not. I was thinking that Imoen is the one thing the two areas have in common, but after checking, she's spawned by a script in Chateau Irenicus so wouldn't stop the area loading. Crashing during area loading just says dodgy creature file to me, but it could just as easily be something else. As you can load into ToB, it doesn't seem to be anything inherent to CHARNAME. Could be the worldmap, I suppose, as ToB uses a different one to BGT, but you look like you installed the right one.

Ah, ok. I did not assign "i got rusty with the installation magic" with "I did a manual installation".
Hm, any scratches on your cd, CRC-errors during the install, failed weidu-installations with a rollback, warnings or errors in the .debug-files?

CD is fine, i can play ToB.
no CRC errors.
yes: one weidu component errored and rolled back, i did not install it because of that.
checking the debug files now...

note that the game even crashes when trying to create a singleplayer character, not starting the generated singleplayer character into the game; i do not get to this point. i can however create a character with the multiplayer pregeneration and yes, for SoA or ToB.

i enabled logging in the baldur.ini but it does not log any error when/after the game crashes.

Oh, you're not loading a zone, but crashing during character creation on singleplayer? But not when creating a multiplayer character. That makes no sense to me. I'd blame kits if you were crashing in multiplayer too.

What point in singleplayer character creation are you crashing? The moment you hit "New Game"?

I don't think we're going to get to the bottom of this here to be honest. Could just be something got corrupted during your install, so might be worth you trying to install again.
