So I did a full "expert" install using BWS 8.2 and let it get all the latest patches and mods. This was a couple weeks ago but I thought I'd report the issues.

I got the messsage "These selected downloads are defect:"
Thalantyr Item Upgrade v3.6
Indira NPC (BGT) v10.4
Mulgore & Xavia NPCs (BGT/TuTu) v5.0
Huple NPC v1.2
BGSpawn System v1.04
BGT Tweak Pack (31 Oct 09) v9
Hard Times (BGT) v2.2
Expanded Thief Stronghold (GBThfKp) v2.19
Ajoc's Minimod v1.6.3
The Tortured Soul Quest (TTSQ) v7
Planar Sphere v2.6c
The Bigg Quest Pack v2.02
Spellhold Gauntlet (SPGaunt) v1.16
Fading Promises v4
Sylmar Battlefield v1.025
Tales of the Deep Gardens v3.2
Azengaard Tactical Encounter (AzenMOD for BGT) v5.0
Deeper Shadows of Amn (DSoA) v2.2.4
Domains of Dread (DofD) v3
D's Odd Quest (Imnesvale) v1
Bag Bonus v1.0.3
Freedom's Reign & Reign of Virtue (FR/ROV) v7
Heart of the Wood v6
Killing Wolf NPC (KWolf) v1.1

Not sure why since I think it retrieved, extracted and installed them successfully. There were a bunch of mods it retrieved, extracted but did not install for some odd reason (Rogue Rebalancing, Unique Containers, several others).

Also got the message: The following mod(s) could not be downloaded:
Sir Ajantis NPC for SoA (Beta) v0.2.19: The Mod itself (Ajantis_BGII_Beta0219.zip)
Kiara-Zaiya NPCs (with translations) v1.6: The Mod itself (Kiara-Zaiya_v1.6_FrEsGe.zip)

I downloaded them manually ok. Might have had something to do with timeouts from those servers.

These mods failed to extract (though I don't think they downloaded either):
Selune's Armoury v2: The Mod itself (SeluneArmoury-V2.rar)
Wikaede Revisited (NPC) v4.1: The Mod itself (WikaedeRv4-1.rar)
Moongaze's Kari (NPC) v1: The Mod itself (MoongazesKari-v1.rar)
Spell-50 v10: The Mod itself (spell50-v10.7z)

Most if not all of these are not available though I may have grabbed the Armoury from somewhere. The other stuff really shouldn't be in the BWP if you ask me (Spell 50 rules I'm sure are available through a bunch of other mods). Why question a modder who pulled all his mods from the web for whatever reason (it's reason enough not to bother with the mods in my view).

All downloads say "Fetching [mod] [version] (0,01 MB)" when obviously they are larger than that.

A lot of mods have a whole bunch of language .tra files that probably could be deleted to save space if those languages aren't relevant to your install. That is the one thing that makes sense perhaps in some sort of cleanup batch, though also several mods unnecessarily back up the override folder (or dialog.tlk or chitin.key) and those backups can be purged.

There are places where the Install.bat says BGII - SVA (in English it should be BGII - SoA). Got another message "Could Not Find G:\Archive\BGII - SoA\BWP*" during the install - not sure what it was trying to do, though the base folders existed.

And speaking of which, can we narrow down which mods *require* the folder to be named "BGII - SoA" and fix that somehow so it's not required (so that you can install BWP to whichever folder you want)?

Install.bat: "Please repeat your settings" should be "Please review your settings."

The initial CRE checker gives a bunch of "zeroed effects/items offset" messages. What exactly is it doing here?

There was a report of an "Illegal creature file in edwin\cre\tknight.cre (file size is 724 bytes)" - didn't investigate further.

After the TS compatibility fix, there are the messages: Could Not Find spcl242.spl spcl221.spl (didn't look at this either).

I can of course provide the debug files etc. but I'm not going to bother compressing and uploading 20MB of stuff unless someone really wants to look at it :).

Apart from these rather minor things (except some random mods not installing, which I could not replicate in a second install), this is a big improvement over previous versions - keep up the good work.

One final thought - I had a power outage during the second test which effectively botched that install. It'd be nice if there were some sort of "resume" function, though offhand I can't think of how to implement that gracefully.

Agreed, I understand some of the old people (not as in age :P) might still have those mods. But I'd reckon they're experienced enough to either pause the install.bat and install them (and everyone says a 'pause' funtion is useless <_<) or edit the install.bat itself :P

I feel your pain :crying: (had 2 installs of BWP7 fubared like that) Anyway, the next MAJOR BWS is gonna have resume ;) (I think the current one has it too ... didn't get to check :P) From the BWS development thread:

Quote

Would a pause-function be needed?

I am including an exit/resume-function. So you can click the exit-button, the BWS waits for the current weidu to exit and you can resume from that point. Will a pause-function make any additional sense to you? (You would just have to click on the GUI and not on the BiG World Setup.vbs -- doesn't make a great difference to me, but since someone asked for it, it put it here.)

Cheers,
Lol

1) These selected downloads are defect:
I don't know exactly what's going on here. I have seen a few of those reports. Maybe my download-queries are a little bit too fast for SHS?
At least it looks like these mods are from here.
The reason for that error is that the request for an html-header to get the file-size failed. And I think I added another check if that failed.
The last time I tried to reproduce that, I had no errors. Maybe I get some when I try it another time.

2) "Fetching [mod] [version] (0,01 MB)"
This is displayed if the server does not return a valid size in the header that was found by the BWS.
Chosen of Mystra tends to have some of them. I thought I had eliminated that message, so I'll have a look at it.

3) "BGII - SoA"-folder
As far as I recall, there was an install that failed and after a replacement of the name, it was working.
I don't think that this was confirmed by other modders. And I can't remember failed installs either.

4) CRE checker
That's a tool from Taimon. I think the issue is described here. So it corrects some patching-issues.
THINK! - It's not illegal.

If you install components 10 and 20 of mymod and quit WeiDU while it's installing 30, appending
~setup-mymod.tp2~ #0 #10
~setup-mymod.tp2~ #0 #20
~setup-mymod.tp2~ #0 #30
to weidu.log is enough to have WeiDU correctly handle his own internal backup engine. This might not be enough for the mods using complex AT_* commands (I wouldn't try my luck with biffing mods and/or gen_biff, among other stuff), but it's sure enough for tweaks, NPCs, etc.

Would you like a --safe-quit switch to rewrite WeiDU.log every time a new component begins its installation? I can't do this by default because writing weidu.log isn't possible when in a stack uninstall state.

It would probably be helpful if it doesn't bog down the install procedure much.

While we're on the subject of uninstalling mods, is it possible to skip README/LANGUAGE queries if a component is already installed? Maybe some oddball would want to read the readme for an uninstall or choose German for component Y when component X is in English, but if it's not the default behaviour, it'd be useful as a switch at least. Though I'm thinking of it as the default because I get sick of being asked that stuff when I uninstall mods during repeated testing.

There's a --quick-log available ;)
It's not on by default because it doesn't print the component name. I suppose BWS/install.bat could use --quick-log for all mods and --safe-quit for all mods but the unsafe ones. To have the component names, simply use the upcoming weidu --save-component-names as the final step.

I'd rather have a weidu.cfg file:

COMMAND_LINE "--skip-at-view" "--quick-log" "--language" "0"
The stuff after the COMMAND_LINE statement is auto-parsed every time WeiDU is executed in the given directory before processing the real command line arguments (of course this'd need stuff like --force-at-view, --no-quick-log to override a COMMAND_LINE statement). This is probably the fastest way to code this kind of behavior for me.
COMMAND_LINE is there in case I want to introduce other type of configuration parameters.

People flaming me for creating weidu.* files in 3..2..1..

Makes sense I guess but it'd be better if it was flexible enough to handle separate install/uninstall configurations without having to change it all the time. Ideally, I want to be prompted for the language during installs (English is not always "0" unfortunately) and skip it during uninstalls/reinstalls.

I don't know if this is correct place to post this or is this considered hijacking someone else thread. Anyway I have now three times in past few days installed BWP/BWS standard version and got some error and strange things happening in the process.

First of all in the third install I got interesting chain of events.

Some reason BWS didn't update it's link list although I had BWS_Linkupdates-20091204_0.7z in my Big world Downloads directory (which was only thing I saved from previous installs because I didn't fell like downloading over two gigabytes of mods at every time).

Then in the Big World Download Debug.txt file we get this:

E:\Pelit\BGII - SoA\BiG World Setup>"E:\Pelit\BGII - SoA\BiG World Setup\Tools\wget.exe" --tries=3 --continue --progress=dot:binary --output-document="E:\Pelit\BGII - SoA\BiG World Downloads\WeiDU-Windows-211.zip" "http://www.weidu.org/users/thebigg/WeiDU-Windows-211.zip"

19:21:52 ERROR 404: Not Found.

E:\Pelit\BGII - SoA\BiG World Setup>Download of WeiDU-Windows-211.zip successful.

Last two lines are kind of interesting as first it says error 404: not found and after that says download successful. How is that possible?
Anyway lets continue with installation shall we. Next up Big World Unpacking Debug.txt

Checking WeiDU (Tool) v211 ...

This may be caused by several reasons.

No big surprises here, as expected file which was "successfully downloaded" fails to extract correctly. Although I'm wondering why there is checking of BG2 XP Patch before final error message.

Now lets skip at the of this file to see one more thing.

The intresting thing here is that even after two error in the process BWS fails to inform me that Weidu didn't install correctly. As with the information this program gave me I proceeded to the Big World Install.bat and found out that my Weidu version is actually 185 which doesn't have -- force install command. I know this all wouldn't have happened if I had correct links in the first place but still I think this is a problem. By the way where can I check why my BWS didn't update to correct links.

Then other errors I have received during install process.

Some mod uses XM2WAV named program to convert music files. This is problem because that program is 16-bit and is not compatible with 64-bit Windows or so does my Windows 7 keep telling me every time I install. That error message also stops the installation process so it's kind of problematic. Could not find any reference to this error message in Big World Debug.txt in my BGII main folder.

I have this error message in Big World Debug.txt in my BGII main folder. Don't know if this happens because Weidu isn't latest version. Also included the the debug file for it.

Looks like your setup is trying to download and use Weidu 211. I had this same problem http://www.shsforums.net/index.php?showtop...052&st=180#

The Tethyr patch was updated to require functions only in Weidu 212 so that'd be why that is failing, I think.

Stick this in your BiG World Setup/config folder and I think it'll start working again. Backup your old one just in case though!

Hmm, you shouldn't get those errors, cause you are using the v21100, not 21200 in which the function was redefined... or then you are getting conflicting versions... meaning that the BWP re-patches the v21200 back to v21100... This could all be because you didn't get the last update.

BWS - Standard = not imba. Tactical = stupid hard. Expert = broke.
In case the BG2 game crashes, open up the 'baldur.ini' in your game folder, and under the [Program Options] section in the file, make a new line and type in 'Logging On=1' (without the '' quotes, unless the line is already there)... Save the file and exit. Now go back into the game and try to reproduce the crash. Then look in your game folder again for the Baldur.err file and open it with the Notepad to analyze its contents, or let us do it.

Always post the contents of your baldur.err in the case of crashes. I seem to be repeating this like 5 times every time I log on here :P.

(which was only thing I saved from previous installs because I didn't fell like downloading over two gigabytes of mods at every time).
No panic, you don't need to download all the mods again and again. All your downloaded mods are stored in your download directory and the BWS will recognize them. ;)

Now lets skip at the of this file to see one more thing.
The extraction of the following mod(s) failed:
Sylmar Battlefield v1.025: The Mod itself (1Sylm.zip)
Selune's Armoury v2: The Mod itself (SeluneArmoury-V2.rar)
Wikaede Revisited (NPC) v4.1: The Mod itself (WikaedeRv4-1.rar)
Moongaze's Kari (NPC) v1: The Mod itself (MoongazesKari-v1.rar)
The last three mods couldn't be extracted, because you haven't them, so all is fine. If you don't have the mods stored on your computer, you can't get them.
The download and extraction of "Sylmar Battlefield" should be o.k., too, only the BWS message is wrong. I've found the mistake and will correct it.

Hmmm, I think, the XM2WAV is from "Imoen's Romance" and the problem was reported some time ago. We'll see, what we can do. At the moment, don't use "Imoen's Romance" on 64-bit Windows.

Some reason BWS didn't update it's link list although I had BWS_Linkupdates-20091204_0.7z in my Big world Downloads directory...

This problem should be solved with the current BWS Update-Package v8.2.6

Greetings Leomar
A Megamod does not mean that you can play all of the mods or all of their content,
but you have more choices or paths through the game.

Has someone tried the "WinXP 32 compatibility mode" available on Windows 7 64 (don't know about vista 64) ?
I guess that if you launch "BiG World Install.bat" with this compatibility mode it should run without problem...

I can't try myself, I have access to Windows 7 64 only at work...

The wow (Windows on Windows-Service) service is used for running older versions of windows-software an a PC.
On 32-bit it is 16-bit. On 64-bit it is 32-bit. So 64-bit vista does not support 32-bit compatibility-mode.
THINK! - It's not illegal.
