There is not much I can say. When I choose a class in the Character Generation screen, for example a fighter, I immediately crash to desktop and get the message as shown in post #18, even in a fresh installation.
It doesn't matter whether the file guicg.chu is in the override or not, the message is the same.

Did you have more than 10 Fighter Kits, cause Lollorian got it working with more...

Hmm, maybe I have used something static in the code that I shouldn't have. Will have a look.

@Hoppy: Do you get the same pBtOption11 != NULL error as the others?

OK, give this test .dll a go. Rename by removing the .txt extension and put in BG2 directory.

I changed the way that the virtual EXE patches, and then added some console dump just before the assertion error. If you still get the error, could you run the game in a window and take a screen dump of the text in the console when the error occurs?

Hmm, perhaps the patches aren't working properly. Try this one. Same instructions as per above.
If there is a problem, you might notice a "Patch failed" message box (it doesn't get the focus properly so you probably see it in the taskbar) that gives an Address and Error code.

The two addresses I am interested in are 0x9775F6 and 0x977607.

If you get an error involving these, could you give me the details of the message box you see?

P.S. You might want to disable everything in TobEx.ini except for "KitScroll", but even if you don't, if you have to click through lots of message boxes, I am interested in that as well.

I just tried the new TobEx.dll. The message is nearly the same except of this:

pSctrollBar = 0x0

But unfortunately I don't get a "Patch failed" message box, neither on the desktop nor in the taskbar.

You are both Germans... so the .exe is from the 26498 International release... do you have any other mods that patches the .exe?
Cause I had an issue earlier that I think could be result of other mods editing the .exe, as now my almost clean install works well with the latest TobEx... if you have an issue, I am sure the Ascension64 might like to have your the pre and post installment BGMain.exe's, so he can see if there is some kind of mismatch of info... unless he'll soon come and say he doesn't need them.

My first post in this thread was with no mods at all, on a clean install. Since then, I installed BWP-tactics. Nothing's changed as regards the utility. Still giving the same error, more or less.

I bring news :) I have an expert BWP8.3 install going right now ... installed the TDD and RoT kits too, and the installer is now paused after all the megamods (before BGT)

I loaded up the ToBEx.exe (just enabled the KitScroll, disabled everything else) and lo and behold ... :woot:

My guess is, one of those exe patches (SCS, SR, RR, Taimon's etc) is probably interfering in the full BWP :unsure: Ofcourse, I'll let the install run to completion and report again after a few hours :P

Well, if you read this again:


I'm also getting the same error as Pauljh5 and Darkkaine and AndrewB. I just want to add, the error also happens on an unmodded game.
ToB patch 26498 is installed of course, your guicg.chu is in the override. Only KitScroll with/without Songlist is enabled.
All other programs are closed, even AntiVir is deactivated.

Your guess might be wrong. Hmm, my guess is that Leonardo doesn't have the latest package, or if he does, he uses the .dll from this topic instead of the original in the package... which should work and does for me! So, we were both wrong... :lol:

I had gone through the --change-log from http://www.shsforums...post__p__478084, but it didn't come up with any problems.

My working theory now is that a mod (maybe GUI) decides that the game will use some file other than guicg.chu for character generation.

Although I was completly sure that all was right, I have done a clean installation from CDs - full SoA + ToB + Patch 26498.

My BGMain.exe is 2.5.0.0, language English (USA)

Just to be sure, I downloaded again TobEx, last updated 11 December 2009

There is NO other mod installed, also NO other exe patch!

As expected I crashed to desktop. I also tried your latest TobEx.dll with the same result. But this time the error messages have changed:

If your BGMain.exe is version 2,5,0,0, TobEx won't actually start. It would tell you that you have the incorrect file version.
TobEx does not distinguish between 26498 and 26499b though.

Different numbers in the console doesn't really make a difference - they are dynamic pointers to memory addresses. However, what I am worried about is pScrollBar = 0x0 and pBtOption11 = 0x0 and the count being 0xf. This indicates that the extra stuff I added to GUICG.CHU isn't being loaded properly.

Third go. This will give me an idea of what GUI is being loaded when you start the program. The information is saved in TobEx.log, created in the BG2 directory. Could you attach the TobEx.log after running TobEx once? Note that the log appends and can get awfully big if you run TobEx heaps with this dll.
