running through BGT because i've never done a vanilla romance (gonna try jaheira because it seems the most fleshed out, so to speak). i've always used level1npc to set immy up as a sniper from kitpack6, but lately it seems that that might not fit her personality quite right. anyone try making her a bard (that seems to fit her quite well)? i'd like to follow the story as much as possible (ie, don't want her talking about pickpocketing after making her a monk .... :whistling: ... you get the idea). so what do you typically make immy?
i have a witty signature thought up, i just haven't posted it yet.

I always kept her as a plain kitless thief->mage (I even did this in BG1, before I knew it would happen in BG2).

Bard would suit her, but if you're going to haul Garrick or Eldoth (or H'D later on) around with you, it may not be optimal to make her one as well. Will you have a proper thief? If not, keeping Imoen as a thief for most or all of BG1 may be the best choice, but if you have someone else around to handle locks and traps, you could dual her to mage at a lower level. I don't think any of these options is necessarily more out of character than any other, so just go with whatever will make most sense with the group you're planning to use.

If you're looking for a thief kit, swashbuckler probably fits (and people tell me it works nicely, mechanics-wise). There are some mod kits like "adventurer" that gives a boost to trap removal and a penalty to backstabbing that would work well, too.

thanks ... i have never played or taken a bard in any play through (not even sure really what they do or how to properly use them), but probably should try ... i'll have amber in bg2 as my primary thief, but immy will have to handle my lockpicking/trap finding duties throughout bg1. even before this post i was torn between bard or swashbuckler, but am open to any more suggestions.

Don't be torn... go for the big score... and take the Switch Bard.
It's a Thief -> Bard -> Thief -> Bard -> switcher.

The same mod in SHS.

The only times I've tried applying any modifications at all to Imoen, they rendered the game broke as a result (BGII on a Mac under OS X). I've since abandoned all thoughts of altering her character in any way. It's been a couple years now, and I'm on my first test game that's gone as far as Chapter 4, so maybe by now there are some mods that don't hash the game...?

Best wishes,
Eric

Well, on Windows, the Level1NPCs does all the changes you wish to make in a WeiDU mod, so it's the best option you'll be using... of course you'll need the kit mods and everything else installed before the Level1NPC as it works with everything.

Sweet! I've been wanting to try that mod, to custom-build the NPCs safely, so I'll add that to my mountain of mods to install ;) It will take time to get them all into my installation, though, as I'm testing one at a time, and am currently testing SoS...

Thanks,
Eric
