I am about 2/3s the way through installing a tutu game with a bunch of mods and now i am seeing this BGT thing around and it sounds like it does the same thing as tutu. That is, you can play the game all the way through. But, tutu doesn't let you use Dark Side of the Sword Coast, and I think BGT does.

Is that correct?

What other differences are there?

Whats better for someone who is probably only going to play this through a couple of times, tutu or BGT?

A short answer is that Tutu is BG1 with the BG2 engine and with BGT you play though all of the games BG1, BG2 and ToB.

Erhm, the short answer is that there is three conversion packages for the BG1 part: The
1) BG1Tutu
2) EasyTutu
3) BGT-WeiDU
you can play the BG1 part with either BG1Tutu or EasyTutu or the BGT-WeiDU... but there's essential differences.
That's the short answer.

The long, goes something like this:
1: the BG1Tutu is the lest updated, as it lead to EasyTutu, it uses installer that installs itself on top of the BG2 game... so you can then not play the BG2 at all.
2: the EasyTutu's installer can install it on a new game directory by copying data from the unmoded games, options to choose are Full/Custom install of BG1 patched to the latest update or Same BG1+TotSC. It also needs the BG2 game and the options there is 'same', BGII - SoA or BGII - SoA&ToB (full installs and fully patched).
3: The BGT-WeiDU is truly a BG2 mod, and so it can be installed at any point in BG2 mod install order(as long as the Tutu'es or any other BG2 conversion is not present)... but it's recommended that you use a proper install order... like the one set in the BWS, so you don't go and install mod x and invalidate the dependencies of other mods z, s, and c etc.
As you can see from that, the BG2 mod means that when you start a new game, you start it in Candlekeep, and you go through the BG1 end up talking to Belt who then sends to to the BG2 in a 'short cinematic', and surprise surprise, you wake up somewhere really familiar(BGII - SoA start)...
