I can't decide between my party. I have about 8 or 9 chars I want, but I was wondering if I could split the party up into two. I know this is not possible unless I switch them, but I don't want to leave 4 or 5 characters and return a few levels later only to find they haven't levelled. I know when you meet the party members, they are automatically at your level, or near it anyway, but if I leave them at say, the Friendly Arm Inn and return to them at level 7, will they also be level 7 or will their exp be the same?

I'm using Big World ~ Tactic, so I'm not sure if this is the same for those playing vanilla BG, but saying that, not many people are playing vanilla these days anyway.

Thanks for any help.

If you kick characters out of the party, they will not level up.

Damn, that's a real shame. I can't take Xan with me because Edwin/Dynaheir/Minsc take up 3 blocks. Shame I can't have a 7th member of the party. Oh well.

You could use cheat codes to manually level NPCs up, unless you have some objection to that. With cheat codes enabled, type ctrl+space to open the console, then type CLUAConsole:SetCurrentXP(###) where ### is the desired XP amount. It applies to whichever characters are selected at that point. So if you wanted to level Xan up, you'd just select him.
