I don't at all object to other people distributing fixes to my mods, or even fixed versions of my mods. Quite apart from anything else, I have a fairly busy job and often disappear from the modding scene for months at a time. It would be churlish of me to object to others helping out in the interim by fixing bugs I don't fix.
But I do think it's courteous, when you do it, to make sure you tell me about it in some way that I'm definitely going to come across (posting about it at the relevant G3 forum is best). I really don't want to have to trawl around indefinitely many BWP threads looking for SCS-relevant material; I really don't want to have to download BWP and dissect its code to find SCS fixes; I really don't want to have to field SCS bug reports where the error has occurred not in my own code, but in someone else's modification of my code. (And sometimes, when I actually track down a "fix", it turns out to be wrong, based on a misunderstanding of how SCS is coded.)
The latest version of the BWP install guide says this (page 213):
BWP is working closely with the modders. Once we have a new bug fix, it will be installed with the BWP Fixpack
and is immediately available to all players. At the same time, the modder will be informed about the
patches made.
That seems a very sensible policy, but I don't think the modder is being informed at present (at least, I'm not).
So, a request: if anyone wants to provide a bugfixed or compatibility-fixed version of one of my mods, or distribute a modified version of my mod, please do - but then please post at G3, tell me exactly what you've done, and provide a link.
There's no ultimatum or anything here: I'm not going to say "or else you can't do XYZ", and I don't think you'd have any obligation to pay attention if I did. I imagine what's going on is just that you're very busy keeping BWP up to date and have slightly forgotten about the pledge to inform modders (especially as the great majority aren't active any more). But I'd very much appreciate it if you'd go back to doing this, and I think in the long term it's healthier for BWP and for the modding scene as a whole.
