Potential new component: Xulaye need not join the party

What with the results in this thread and all, I've been considering -- sometime later this year -- changing the mod, so that Xulaye joining is optional to her quest/alterations to the Underdark portion of the game.

She would still have much the same dialogue with the PC, it would just be a little more like your encounters with Phaere. You would meet her at certain times around your meetings with Solaufein/Phaere.

Would there be demand for something like this, or is the mod fine as it is? Would you be more likely to install/play the mod if not having her join is an option?

Depending on how much coding you wish to do, you could make Xulaye follow the party around as a sort-of-familiar (like Haiass does).

Well, at least I would play it far more likely as a quest mod without her following the PC, because I have a set character picks that I would like to very much go through the whole of the game(BGT-ToB).

I am all for new quests that do not require the NPC to join the party.

I think this would be a fantabulous addition, and I would make it part of my standard install.

I like when she in-party, but make Xulaye need not join the party will make mod more flexible.
I think it would be great addition to mod. :Tasty:

I would have to agree. Leaving her joining as a player option is a great idea (especially for folks whose party slots are already full, as mine usually are).

I think an option for when you don't want her to join, would certainly make her more versatile - especially for when you don't have a slot open; don't have Korgan or are a more good-aligned party. I do like Xulaye because she makes the Underdark a bit more interesting. But I don't always take her *because* of one of the reasons above. So, allowing her quests to be done without her mucking up your party would certainly be welcome!

Looks like a great idea: after all, it's nearly impossible not to have a full party by the Underdark.

If I thought I would understand how to do mimic your code on this, I would beg you to tell me how to do it.

I am toying with the idea of a mini BG1 mod as a prequel to the Shy mod.

I'm not going to make her follow the party around, as that could get messy. Depending on how feasable this is, story-wise, it'll probably be more like Phaere is now.

I wish I had the time to engineer a solution for having her as a seventh party member, but I don't, really, and what time I do have I'd rather spend on writing new things than going over old things. :)

Now that Jastey's Solaufein and Argent's Afaaq have proven the feasibility of a 7th party member it would be amazing to have Xulaye available in that form, too! Is anybody still maintaining this mod? I might have a look at the scripts and see whether their solution could be adaptable for Xulaye later this year.

First off: I'd be very happy if you'd (or anyone, for that matter) would have a look at whether what I did with Solaufein makes any sense. I'd assume Argent's coding is better, though. But his Djinni companion has the great advantage that he can retreat into his flask, whereas for Solaufein I tried some "does not die but gets unconscious" approach.

I don't have a contact info of Kaeloree (none where I get a direct answer, at least), so if you get his permission for such a change I'm ready to assisst and upload the new version. It might be that Lava is official maintainer of this mod also, I am not sure.

 

From my perspective, adding the 7th party member functionality I added to Solaufein would be smaller effort than to make her quests "Solaufein-style" whithout her actually following around with the party which would require some rewrite. "7th party member" functionality requires some rescripting, but the actual content could stay the same.

Sounds great! I can't promise anything, but I'll definitely look into it before my next reinstall. No idea how to contact K either though as I don't do Twitter. The real question is whether this could potentially be incompatible with Afaaq, who is already available at that stage of the game.
