My problem is this: I have the Baldur's Gate - Original Saga 3-CD version of the game. I've been trying to install them for a day or so now, but nothing happens when I do. I insert the disk, the game shows the autorun, I select Install, and then nothing. If I wait half an hour, I see the Installshield bar for a few minutes, followed by more nothing.

I know that the Setup is running, because I check on it in the Processes tab of Task Manager. I've tried running it as an administrator, I've tried running it in compatibility mode with Windows XP (I'm running Windows 7), and neither of them have worked. So, anyone got any suggestions?

One thread is quite enough, thank you.

Stick to this one, since it's in the correct forum.

If there is nothing else you can do, then install the game on another computer and copy all the game files to a USB stick (or to a DVD etc.) and then paste them to your computer to the same location... but what ever you do, DO NOT install the game on the other computer to the "C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\", and then after you have copied the files, always use the "BGMain2.exe" to start the game(or a short cut made from it on the desktop), not the CD's auto start program that it has, as the game won't be registered in the computer, the front end program that the CD starts is always just giving you the Install and Exit screen... And you have to have the play CD in a CD drive, it doesn't matter which.

And if that doesn't work(the install to another computer), then there is really nothing you can do cause the CD's are probably damaged... other than buy new game.

Wouldn't that cause issues with game-unifying mega-mods like Baldur's Gate Trilogy?

Not really, as the BGT-WeiDU doesn't use the Windows registry to find the game file, you give the folder yourself... and I should know, I wrote this.

Thanks. Actually, I was just looking at that exact same post, but I hadn't gotten past part 3. It's a great resource, really deserved being made a sticky. Thank you for your help.

I tried installing on another computer and moving it, but when I tried opening BGMain2.exe, the system gives this error message:

An Assertion failed in
D:\BGSourceUpdate_TOTSC\dev\chitin\ChDimm.cpp at line number 609
Programmer says: Unable to Open BIF:data\SFXSound.bif

What is it saying the problem is, and how do I solve it?

ChDimm.cpp at line number 609

Googling that gives this... did you make a full install ? And open the baldur.ini file and copy paste the next few lines after the "[Alias]" ...
