It looks like that error is thrown when 16-bit color is unsupported.
What version of Windows are you running?
I highly recommend updating/installing a display driver here -> http://www.nvidia.co...load/index.aspx

you can try to run the game in windowed mode by editing torment.ini and changing 'Full Screen=1' to 0

You can also try this http://www.shsforums...rsor-trail-fix/ as kinda of a silver bullet

Does the game work only with the widescreen mod, without my UI ?

This error pops up usually when the resolution you've installed the widescreen mod, isn't one of the standard supported resolutions. Have you installed it at your native screen resolution ? If not, you may need to add it as a custom resolution in your graphic card's panel.

well, i tried to uninstall, and it even fails if i uninstall the widescreen mod. so i guess it was not your mod that had a problem. i have no clue what it is trough.

I'm going to necro this thread because I'm having the same issue. I've got the GOG version of the game (though I've changed the install directory to get it out of Program Files), I've turned off my anit-virus program, I'm on Windows Vista 32 bit, using an Nvidia card (with updated drivers) and the widescreen mod. I get this exact error message and the game refuses to even boot. If I uninstall the UI mod, the game will boot.

Forgot to mention that I've tried this at 1900x1200 (native screen resolution) and 1900x1080. Same problem with both.

Try again with 1920x1200 or 1920x1080, as neither of the above are native resolutions for any screen I know of.
It might be good idea when setting the resolutions to check the Windows desktop resolution.

Thanks for this, that worked. I appear to have had a reading comprehension fail. I blame beer.
