Would it be simple to remove the limited range of sight, and just display everything in a region?

I want to play this game after all the hype, but it's so outdated I can't stick with it. At the very least, opening it up like a modern RPG so the character can see more than ten feet around him would go a long way toward making this playable.

the areas could be set to be shown as explored (i.e. no black areas just fog of war) tho I'm not sure that the mod author would wish to do that seeing as it was once in the mod and has since been limited to only city areas.

But what I think you are really asking is for a greater range in which you can see other characters and creatures rather than just knowing buildings and terrain in advance and that unfortunately is not possible as it is hard coded within the game engine.

Wouldn't the radius have to be a simple number set somewhere? It would seem to me that if I were programming a game like this, I would define the view length used in calculating this masking effect just the one time and then be done with it. Normally game code has an entire set of these definitions.

Which I know is different between code vs the binary, and I don't know how PST manages these things. No .ini files, no dev/cheat console, overall it looks like a very unfriendly game to alter/mod. It's amazing that people have done as much as they have (probably a testament to its niche popularity). But for the rest of us who _didn't_ play it way back and aren't revisiting it for nostalgia, it's putting up with a tediously dated game to get at the story everybody praises. I don't even like _modern_ Diablo clones.

But I hope you understand what I'm saying: it has to be variable somewhere in running memory, so that even if it requires a trainer to adjust that value I'm sure it must be possible. Assuming there isn't some simpler way to do it. Like I said, I'm unfamiliar with how PST works. If there's a bunch of effort involved, then don't worry about it--I wasn't looking to bother anybody over it. I thought that most of these functions were well known by now, that perhaps it was overlooked or already done and I could be pointed to a mod some place.

In any case, I did find the tweaks patch to remove the black areas. I don't mind having to explore an area, I just resent having to walk up to something in order to see it (even when it's less than ten feet in front of the character). Hopefully they will remake the game some day.

PS Just wanted to say thank you to whomever decided to let guests post. One less registration to deal with merely for asking a question--I appreciate it!

radius is hard coded in the exe file(s) where specifically? no one knows.

No .ini files, no dev/cheat console

all you ever wanted to know about what is known in the infinity engines is at the IESDP

If there's a bunch of effort involved

there would have to be a lot of effort. effort that not many would wish to take on. I know I don't.

I just resent having to walk up to something in order to see it (even when it's less than ten feet in front of the character).

You should be able to see them just fine starting at around 100 feet (PST's larger sprite size is what is throwing that aspect off) problem is you can't actually talk to most npcs without being right in their face...

Hello @ everybody that reads this!

Just wanted to say that I wished for exactly the same thing when playing PST at 1920x1200 recently! There are some areas (parts of buildings in the corners of maps) you can never see uncovered by the fog of war which is bad because I regard PST as a piece of art (the whole thing - not just the looks - but I like the style of the rendered maps, the architecture etc.).

Best regards & thx @ all people still caring about this game and a special THANKS @ everybody still developing mods!
