I've just installed Planescape: Torment for the first time (I know I'm a little late to the game but hey, I like classics).
After installing the game, applying the patch and downloading the resolution mod/patch, it started perfectly with no problems whatsoever, except for the sound.

Whenever I'm playing, there's this constant beeping sound which is extremely annoying and irritating to the ears (it literally hurts after a while and gives me a headache). It's rather high pitched and it doesn't stop at all, not in pause or dialog mode. Except in the map and menu screen when pressing ESC.

Turning off Creative EAX in the audio options doesn't help either. Turning off Sound Processing obviously takes care of the static sound, but since it disables every sound in the game completely, it's needless to say that I'd like to avoid having to play the game this way.

So, I tried googling for help but couldn't find anyone else having this exact problem (I've also played BG2/Icewind Dale which I think use the same game engine? and had not encountered anything like that). Does anyone know how to fix this?

Patch version is v1.1.0000 in case it matters.

Edit: I've played around with audio bars a little more and found out that it's the ambient sound which is causing it. I disabled it and it's gone. Which is fair enough to me, but I'd like it more if someone could still help me with my problem.

I know I'm a bit late but try chnaging the audio hardware acceleration. (Control panel -> Sounds -> Volume -> Speaker settings -> Advanced -> Performance -> Hardware acceleration). Move around the slider and see if the problem is fixed.
