Progress report: Faldorn and Yeslick banters written and coded. I try to do one set a day, and did Faldorn's last night. :)

As someone asked me about this via PM, I also note that Valerie does not, at present, have a voice actress, nor do I have any plans to seek one out. However, if anyone is interested in voicing her, please contact me via PM.

All banters complete. If there's any character interactions you'd particularly like a preview of, feel free to ask in the general thread.

Valerie's interjections are complete and all that remains now is finishing up the coding with K'aeloree's assistance, for which I am very thankful.

K'aeloree reports that finishing the coding for Valerie is right on schedule, and I wrote and coded an alternate friendtalk for those who miss the trigger for Valerie's special plot-related friendtalk.

A teaser for BG2: Valerie will come with Invisibility as one of her default spells in BG2. Don't be surprised if she casts it by reflex in conversation should she get very embarrassed.

Clarifying some more BG2 stuff for the record - how much Valerie's dialogue will change with NPCs can vary dramatically depending on the character. Valerie's banters with Imoen are completely different depending on whether they knew each other in BG1 or not, while Valerie's banters with Anomen don't change at all. Valerie's friendship and romance also don't change significantly based on whether you befriended her in BG1 or not. Some lines change, but the meat doesn't.

Also, here is how Valerie's BG2 friendship and romance will work.

Although romantically and sexually attracted to a PC who meets her requirements (female human, elf, dwarf, half-elf, or half-orc), Valerie is deeply insecure about her attraction to someone as powerful and prominent as <CHARNAME> and will not initiate a romantic relationship of her own initiative. <CHARNAME> must indicate romantic interest in Valerie during the friendship arc to eventually trigger two confrontations about their relationship, one early on and one after the friendship arc concludes. The first confrontation is simply Valerie politely checking that she's reading <CHARNAME>'s signals correctly - <CHARNAME> can say she's straight and Valerie will drop it with no hard feelings, though the second confrontation won't occur. The second confrontation is much more serious and is the point where the romance will either commit and enter the romance arc or end. You don't need to flirt with Valerie at every opportunity in the friendship in order to trigger the romance, though. Player-initiated flirts will increase the counter as well. Additionally, when you meet Valerie for the first time in BG2, you'll have options to establish that you befriended her in BG1 or, if female and meets her romance requirements, reached the romantic conclusion to her BG1 friendship. Both of these options move along the romance counter immediately, the romantic option more so.

Male PCs and female halflings and gnomes can flirt with Valerie during the friendship, but she'll politely shoot you down.

Finally, female elves and dwarves will encounter a special problem in the romance.

BG1 beta testing is going well. Have some dialogue I need to fix tomorrow, but it's going. A big thank you to Rhaella for being by far the most active beta tester. :)

As far as BG2 stuff goes, I've updated the first post with current progress.

Jan banters written and coded. Have one as a preview:

Valerie: ~Looks like everything checks out. Your permits are in good order.~

Jan: ~Of course they are! My great uncle Burt always gets things done on time.~

Valerie: ~I'm afraid to ask. The Cowled Wizards tell horror stories about the Jansen clan.~

Jan: ~Oh? Might I ask what kind of horror stories?~

Valerie: ~The one I hear most often is about one 'Uncle Spanky.' A wild mage, or so the story goes, but more benign than most of those lunatics. His wild surges always manifested the same way, and they were very odd.~

Valerie: ~Specifically, he had chickens. Didn't matter what he cast, somehow he made chickens appear out of thin air. The Cowled Wizards made the mistake of making Spanky sit the magical proficiency and reliability exam.~

Jan: ~Oooh, I know this story! You're getting to the good part!~

Valerie: ~So, of course, he reached the questions on conjuration. He was obviously very, very good at it. Just... unreliable. The practicum for conjuration is very simple: conjure a bit of energy, and a bit of matter. Temporary or not. Spanky hit a wild surge. A big one.~

Valerie: ~Everyone in the building died, smothered to death on the thousands of chickens summoned into a rather small building. But there was a silver lining. The Chaunteans greatly appreciated the donation of a few thousand chickens, which they distributed to small farmers throughout Amn.~

Jan: ~And that was how the Jansen clan started the famous Amnish Poultry Merchants' guild!~

I am now making a significant alteration to the way Valerie's friendship/romance arc works. Because Valerie's BG2 friendship is heavily preoccupied with certain events that occur during BG2, I noticed that you don't get to know Valerie very well during this game. Rather than restrict the romance to those who befriended Valerie in BG1, players who choose the option when meeting Valerie that you're not already friends with her will have a much longer friendship track, specifically 5-6 additional friendtalks early in the friendship arc. These will be modified versions of existing BG1 friendtalks, so those who befriended Valerie in BG1 won't miss anything new.
