Hey everyone. I hate to be another person asking for the "best" install of BigWorld, but here I am, asking. I'd like to know a stable version of the mod, (I know stability is very hard to achieve when combining so many mods), that adds a good number of content (well done, not just there to be there), but without absolutely oversaturating the game so it's easy and cheap. I'm not new to BG/BG2, but I'm new to modding it, and it's a bit overwhelming when compared to other Infinity Engine games. I dled the Bigworld installer that does it all for you, but I wasn't sure if any of the defaults were good/stable/well done, or what exactly covers which. Lastly, I have one last question, when those presets install things like tweak packs, are you not supposed to have input on what is installed and tweaked? I have no idea if it will ignore beneficial components, or install the more gamey ones, as they ask for no input. Thanks for any replies, and I hope this is the right location for my questions.

Use the BWS, and then customize the install by "choosing one of the presets" and then push the "..." button next to it.

and one last thing, read the whole content said in the BWS tool, even if it seems forced at first, it's there for a very good reason.

I was under the impression that BWS didn't really work anymore? I was here several months ago and the only Big World Installer was a crappy hacky DOS interface and you had to manually download every mod (the biggest luxury of the installer is auto download / extract / install in order).

Isn't that the old installer? Wasn't someone working on a new one? I see it's Dabus's who was the original creator but I thought he quit.

Sorry. Shit changes here so fast - and this forum is hardly organized - it's hard to stay on top of what is happening.

Big World could really benefit from a comprehensive single webpage on SHS... hell after all these years it still doesn't even have its own forum :(

Well since it appears everything is great now - and the stuttering is fixed! - I guess I can fire it up!

Well, you could make a poke on this topic... :tease: But read it first... the last plans by K'aeloree are really good sounding.

Hey guys, I decided to do the MegaMod plus setup, and while it didn't find the npc portraits and other mods made by that guy(team?), every other mod dled succesfully, but I've been getting several errors for stuff like Beyond the Law and related mods. Is this gonna break me, or should the rest of the mods install fine?

I'm in your same situation, i've tried in the past with the v9 version of Big World but i never made to end the three games without stuttering problems and crash, maybe because i've add to many mods on my install list.

Now with v11 i'm tryng figuring the perfect list that suits my needs of fun and more importantly that is mostly stable and relatively balanced with exp in the game (as for NPC).

This community is Huge and i thanks all whom contribute and commitment let me still enjoy a game more than 14 years old.

This is my preferred modlist ^_^ There are many like it... but this one's mine  (I've tried to get this INI-fied by the BWS but I tend to use mods that aren't in the BWP yet/components that aren't installed by the BWP :P)

Features: LOTS of content but primarily focused on the vanilla game without changing the gameplay stuff too much :P Also, NO extra NPCs, romances or friendship tracks... just BANTERS BANTERS AND MOAR BANTERS  (and a few interjections)

Don't expect a perfectly balanced game because you'll probably be swimming in XP and loot  (I play an F/M/T and tend to switch around NPCs a lot so it evens out a bit :P) Might wanna install the BP Balancer and DEFJAM (XPMod) or something...

Spoiler

Okay, I don't know if I should start a new topic for this, but with the MegaMod Plus, I'm getting extreme lag in the Xvart village. I looked at Jarno's FAQ, and did all the steps I could, like defragging, deleting the cache and temp files, upping the cache from 500mb to 2GB, and even tried removing some party members. Is there something wrong here, or is this something I should expect frequently with a MegaMod setup?

Well, did you disable the ambient sounds ?
But yes, there's a lot of lag producing events in the megamod coming from multiple sources.

I did not try that one, as I felt it wouldn't help, but I'll try it when I install a megamod next; I took a break from the super long process of reinstalling. If only the village rework was an optional component of that mod...

Well if you don't think the ambient sound won't help... here's the rest of the list that will help in most cases.
PS, that's in the pinned FAQ, why aren't people reading those ? :insert a lot of depression: Ahh, it's the Internet ! Of course people don't read the important things pinned next to the top of the topics.

You ask the impossible, my friend! What's next, you'll expect people to actually read the ReadeMe? :P

I've got the impression that 10-20% read them with care, 60% read them but miss something and either find out themselves or ask and the rest see some text, think "*bla* yeah, I accept, gimme that damn thing" and then post questions why they don't work out as expected.
THINK! - It's not illegal.

I followed all steps on the list except the ambient sound one, as I didn't think it would make that much of a difference on the hardware side, (and the specificed problem that seems to stem from endless hordes of xvarts + enhanced AI.) I do have another somewhat-related question; does using the 1pp and Infinity Animation mods adversely impact smoothness of the game?

Well, the Ambient sounds are location based problem that can stop your whole game on a 2010's computer to a nice one minute stand still slide show...

The 1pp and InfAnim can slow yes, but to avoid that, we .bif the files which takes the problem off our hands. This is how the game that uses the original animations worked on 1990's computers... the mod files actually are now on the same folder and in the same type file structure as the original files are... if you used the full install option.

Thanks for clearing that up. If I can ever get it to install right again, I'll be sure to tweak the ambient sounds like suggested.
