I have an alpha version of BPv181 in the workroom. It's only in English for now, and there's a lot of TRA-ifying left to do in the tp2 file, but it installs properly (AFAIK) and "should" do what's on the wrapper. This is the time to work out the kinks, before final-cleanup and making it multi-lingual. If anybody is interested in helping test this out before I unleash it on the public, please drop me a PM.

Thanks,

Horred

horred, howdie!

How long will you make the alpha/beta phase? I'll be able to kickstart a megainstall in about 2 weeks, or I can make a BG2/ToB-only game if you like.

Low hung brow, dazed look on your face..... It appears that you are correct, my friend. You are indeed a complete imbecile.

I'm a newbie. What help do you exactly need?

Well, the mod went from around 20 components, to nearly 70. It's not all new content--it's new arrangement. Most of the 50 new ones were broken out of the BP main component. More specialized, less generic. More akin to other tactics/AI mods you see on the market now, in my opinion. Components are intended to be standalone except (in most cases) the Core component. The core no longer is a huge conglomerate, but little more than a standard DS install with BP extra rule bits. Very similar to what is done in BPSeries. Around 20 "library" files for the weidu code instead of a single tp2 file that's 20000 lines long or so.

So basically, what is needed is to install stuff and try to check it out in game. Bits of the mod, not the whole mod in one lump sum (we know that much should work as per BPv180). There's still a "generic" component set (much smaller in scope)--try other components out with and without generic  pieces installed.

In theory things should work properly as it's rearranged and not fresh material--but it was such a major split there's lots of potential for small/concealed errors. On the bright side, errors in a component should be easier to track down and fix this way--even by others, provided my library files can be successfully maneuvered.

I'm not outruling the possibility that it won't be tested fully until it's used by a lot of people (i.e. live & public)---its content affects the whole of BG2 and ToB after all. It would just be nice to help spot any little/big obvious stuff that I may have missed.

horred, howdie!

How long will you make the alpha/beta phase? I'll be able to kickstart a megainstall in about 2 weeks, or I can make a BG2/ToB-only game if you like.

I'll probably have to do the beta stage as a public release, merely because of the huge scope of this mod. While a mega-install would be a good test, I'm 100% certain it won't work as that stands. BP was broken down into roughly 70 components, with DESIGNATED numbering. It won't even closely match up with a BWP install. Such a mega install would have to be done the old fashioned way, and I'm sure you can remember what a PitA that was.

There wasn't much actual content changing this time, the focus on modernizing the weidu and splitting up the beast into little pieces. As the AI itself had very little change, that's not what I'm looking to test out. The most valuable testing at this time would probably be:

1) Install BG2-ToB and BP Component "Improved [xxxxx]" (Probably the Core as well; now just a fancy DS install w/ BP embellishments)

2) Go in game and battle a few rounds with [xxxxx] and see if they act right

Which would require a bit of familiarity with BP's somewhat-unique approach to enemy AI, as well as the extra madnesses it adds in. As every standalone component can install properly w/o the "generic AI" components, I pretty sure they're each being fed the right scripts etc. But in an update of this scale, there's always room for 101 little errors that can escape immediate notice.

What do you mean when you say it'll need to be done "the old fashioned way"? do you mean not using BWP and just installing everything one thing at a time?

What I mean is that the BWP crew will have to adjust their installer once this releases. This is not something I can do for them, though I may be able to simplify the task a little. It's nothing they haven't had to do for other mods in the past. But no, an auto-installer that looks for 20 components numbered 0-20 (roughly) will not magically find a set of 70 components that number from 0 to 5000 or so.

These should all be DOS prompts from the installer only. All lines are from Setup.TRA. Of note is that the BPSeries lines were removed from the TRA and tp2. The two mods will remain seperate for the time being, and w/ any luck can be easily transferred over and simultaneously updated when the time is right. I've been mostly careful with the Setup.TRA numbering, trying not to overlap the two mods.

Hi. I'd be glad to test alpha version and report (on a daily basis). I already played version 180 on a Mega-Mod install. Would it be a problem if I tested this on a clean  BG2-ToB install?

Regards

*holds the door open for the latecomers* Going to close this request up. I think I can finally say we've got this in the wrap-up stage. Special thanks to Anomaly and dannyb1166 for all their help to date in testing. And of course to the BP Crew--they did a lot of clean-up and modernizing of the installer code prior to my return.

If we can avoid any more major calamities, we should have something for ye-the-public in a couple weeks. Stay tuned....

NOTE: This does not pertain to ye-the-translators. Your assistance is still most genuinely requested and appreciated. Any languages welcome, provided BG2 can print them. (Would hate to see your efforts wasted).
