Divinity: Original Sin Kickstarter Campaign is Active | Ends on Friday Apr 26, 7:11pm EEST | Pledge Here

DOS.jpg

Larian Studios (of the Divinity series fame) has been running a Kickstarter campaign to raise more money for Divinity: Original Sin - the game is already in pre-alpha, but additional funding will help Larian to add a lot more depth and features in the game. The Kickstarter campaign has been funded successfully now and Larian is aiming to hit some stretch goals @ 650k, 800k and 1M. The KS campaign will end on Friday 26 April. Check out the videos, features and other info (there's a lot of it) and consider pledging if you can. PayPal is also available.

"Picture a modern version of a world not unlike that of Ultima VII, explored either alone or with a friend, that sees you engage adversaries in tactical turn-based combat reminiscent of the great turn-based RPGs of the past. A world that is filled to the brim with choice and consequence situations, reactive NPCs, and a considerable amount of surprises. A world that captures the feeling of playing pen and paper RPGs with our friends. Then add the new stuff..." - Vision statement for Divinity: Original Sin

So uh is it the RPG or the game where you marry a boner princess? It's kind of confusing.

The undead princess etc. would be in Dragon Commander, the strategy RPG hybrid title also in development at Larian Studios.

No... not interested in this one. I really enjoyed the DragonKnight Saga (take the brain out and just play it) but for some reason this one seems like a step backwards.

Turn-based combat is certainly a major change, although I think it'll be for the better in this case.

Maybe because of the busty, sultry looking female?  The one with the sleeveless armor....  *sigh*

+1

Agreed. Although the graphics are certainly nice. Wish BG2:EE could step-up its graphics to this.

Do you know - I actually can't remember as it was *that* long ago I played it! I remember the funny eyes though - and that sod of a mission in the fjords to take down the red barriers where your timing had to be half-second perfect in the change from dragon to human, otherwise you got instantly fried.

I'm pretty sure the Larian graphic dude got yelled at because of this.

Oh, I'm just going by the image at the top of the page.  :D  I know, I know, "don't judge a book by its cover", but egad, that's a bad first impression.

We can only hope.  And here I thought we were making progress in the industry, and some old habits die hard.  But that character with her perfect blonde curls and "come hither" look...  *sigh*sigh*sigh*  We'll get there, though.  But that's neither here, nor there.

The project's been funded, and I don't feel any particular incentive to put money into this.  I'll wait until there's been more coverage, and probably reviews until I decide if I really want to buy this game or not.

Here's what Larian founder Swen Vincke wrote about self-censorship regarding Dragon Commander - it can be applied to Divinity: Original Sin as well. Apparently Larian has already implemented changes to the female character's appearance though, as there has reportedly been quite a lot of feedback about that particular aspect of the game.

Edit: Typo

D'you know, I spent ages googling for that box top and all I found was the one I remember - the all-muscles male hulk with the spikey blonde hair. Just about here I start rattling the pot and the kettle... hehehe :woot: :P
