Recently got the urge to reinstall Baldur's gate series. So I installed both games and the expansions, and decided to install easytutu and some mods to spice things up. Everything went fine, installed everything in the right order, the game worked, everything ran fine for the first day or two. But to my utter bafflement, after loading my save in the middle Beregost after a couple days the display was suddenly stuttering and freezing. What I mean by that is, the game is running more or less fine, its just not displaying properly on the screen, and the screen will stutter and freeze from a second to like twenty seconds while the games still going on without it. Pausing immediately updates the screen to what's actually happening.

This seems to happen mainly in towns,I noticed it first in Beregost; it didn't happen in the wilderness on the way to Nashkel, Nashkel had the problem too, but the carnival and mines were fine. On small maps, inside buildings or such, it doesn't happen or isn't noticeable. The main cause of it seems to be moving members of my party. Especially moving six at the same time. If none are moving it'll just stutter a bit but trying to move more than one causes increasingly bad freezing. My computer is more than good enough to run the game and I've installed and ran it with mods several times with no issues on this computer, I hadn't installed or changed any new mods since the initial install, so that probably wasn't it.

First thing I did was try fiddling with the config, but nothing I tried had an effect. I also couldn't find anyone with a similar problem through google. Then I tried this MACT thing I happened across on these forums, thinking it might just be the game having trouble on Vista, despite it never having trouble before, but the fix it detailed on the thread didn't have an effect either. Then I tried uninstalling the widescreen mod, and ran the game in windowed mode, but that had no effect either.

I would do a complete reinstall but.. as it is, I spent like four hours installing the game, and all the mods and tweaks, and I have very little desire to repeat that anytime soon without some guarantee it would solve the issue. Even then I would almost rather just uninstall it and find something else to occupy my time with.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. My apologies if this is something obvious or a mod conflict/incompatibility I simply did not notice.

I noticed people often ask for the contents of your baldur.ini so here is mine:

Have you touched to this ?

If not, then just say no... just asking.

Now what's in your weidu.log's files content, it's very important in these cases ... But I would recomend that you install the Generalized Biffing -mod(the link can be found in the following link). And then go look around this for other advice.

Low Mem Sounds 2=0 , the zero should be 1...

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

Ah, no, I haven't touched it. I only used the config exe to edit things. I try not to mess with things unless I know what I'm doing. This is definitely a good resource though, a few things that could explain the sudden issues... at least it helps me think of stuff to work on.

Yeah, It was the music thing. I biffed, than changed that music option and boom, all gone. I suppose some extra digging on my part probably would have turned that up. I shouldn't be so easily discouraged

Well, I am glad that I could help... the forum is there for just this, so. :D And also glad you have more resourses to find stuff on your own. Now if you have questions to ask, don't be afraid to ask...
