So I got feeling a bit retro and decided to download Baldur's Gate II to my new Alienware computer. The stats on the computer are: an intel core i5-3330 CPU @3.00GHz Processor, 8.00GB memory, 64 bit system.

running windows 8. It downloaded no problem, and even started up no problem. Went through the first dialogue options but as soon as I am done talking and need to move the screen scrolls to the far left and I cannot even see my character. I can click the compass point to bring up the mini overview map. I can click on the area where my guy is, but again as soon as I go back out of the mini map my icon is force scrolled far left! I can't scroll back no matter what I do. I tried loading it in full screen and in a window but I get the same issue. Anyone have an ideas?

Thanks

Do you use the Widescreen mod ?

And copy paste the baldur.ini -files info to a post, you can open it with Notepad...

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

Yes, that's the correct one...

HD0:=C:\Program Files (x86)\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\

First of all, this is a very bad directory to install games toas you need to always and everytime to override the Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8 protection protocols to be able to change the files in the directory, as for example the games own official pach cannot be applied there without all the privilages and correct process... so you would do better to install the game to say: C:\Games\BGII - SoA\
Next thing:

Install Type=2

I would suggest that you should make a full install of the game, not the one you selected, yes, it takes more space, but todays computers have about 100 fold enough memory to keep it on the hard drive and swiching the CDs will damage them more the more you swich which what you will be doing a lot.
Yes, neither of those advices will fix you problem...

But back to you and your problem, it's probably a controller device related one, as some of the wireless mouses and keyboards have some problems with older games like the BG2, it might be a need to get a new divice drivers or reverting to a old one or at worst, switching to a different one... or some times the problem is a mechanical where the key might be/get stuck, but you would notice that usually.
