Hi,

I tried using both BWS and BW Install.  The program just hangs after I enter my preferences with regards to language, wide screen, etc.

I made sure I have a clean install, and followed instructions carefully.

I have Windows 8, so could there be something I am not doing correctly.

The below screen problem happened with Big Word Install.

This problem occurred with BWS.

With Big World Setup, the program extracted everything without problems.  Then, it started the 'silent extract' - here, I had to manually click, but the DOS screen reported various errors, and closed (to be ignored?).

Seems I got the same problem in the same place.

PS.  Ignore the Baldur's Gate Enhanced - I installed this BG in C:\Black Isle\BGII - SoA

Any idea why this is failing me?

Sorry I cannot help you,

I have a similar but different problem.

I haven't got EE so chose the recommended version in the hope of it being bug free.

The BWS ran OK but when the Big World Fixpack started to install it hung on trying to install a patch.

Like you I am running on Windows 8.

My game is installed on the F drive and wonder if that is what is causing the problem.

Can anyone help?

Well to know what's going on, open the BiG World Debug.txt... and if you can't make out what the cause is, put it to a .zip or .rar archive and attach it to a post or to somewhere it can be downloaded from, like mediafire and the like...
Or if the file is short(say less than 100 -200 lines), you can copy paste it to a post. Prefereably in spoilers, to do that, you just use these tags:
-text-
Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

I know that it is the Big World Fixpack that is causing the problem, specifically the patch in the _util folder.

The batch file tries to open that file and hangs.

The last line in the debug folder is:

.\BiG World Fixpack\_Gavin_Hotfixes\gavin_kickout_hotfix\gavin_kickout_hotfix.d

I opened the patch file in a text editor and it is written in it the top line that the program would not run in DOS, yet that is exactly what the batch file tries to do.

Here is the relevant part of the debug file IMO:

You have done the following settings:

Game: entire BWP with BG1 and BG2

Version: Recommended

Mod Deselection: no mods deselected

Rule System: Standard Rule System

Language: english only

Widescreen-Mod: selected; width / height:

1366

768

Y

Mods with adult content are not selected.

There then followed a lot of text where there does not appear to be a problem.

.\BiG World Fixpack\_Gavin_Hotfixes\gavin_kickout_hotfix\gavin_kickout_hotfix.d

3 File(s) copied

Lol's BiG World Trimpack v11.4

------------------------------------------

Leonardo's BiG World Fixpack v14.0.2

---------------------------------------------------

processing fixes for "1pp"

It was at this point that the DOS file hung.

As previously stated, the patch.exe in _util specifically stated that it would not run in DOS.

Is that enough info?

Did you run as an administrator?
Disabled AV/antisomething for patching?
