Help! Big Picture 1.81 won't install! :(

So I'm trying to install BP181 for BG2:EE (for Ascension) - placed it in the 0783 directory, created an empty override folder, and ran the installer, but when I try to install the Core Components I get this message:

ERROR: illegal 1-byte read from offset 171 of 164-byte file CHAINS.ITM
ERROR: [CHAINS.ITM] -> [override/CHAINS.ITM] Patching Failed (COPY) (Failure("CHAINS.ITM: read out of bounds"))

And it just keeps looping - asking me if I want to install the Core, then failing, etc.

I've probably missed something basic, but I can't figure out what...

This means that the file is corrupted by something that was installed before the BP, and as the BP tries to patch the file, it can't and throws you out cause you don't want to have a damaged install. If you want to find the exact thing not to do(the install component that corrupts the file), you can --change-log the "chains.itm" file.
PS: if you use the archive, make sure to not overwrite the existing weidu.exe with the archive contained one as it's way too old, as you need the v23600 to install files in BG2EE.

I hadn't installed any other mods, though. Ended up doing a clean reinstall and then applying the mod, and it worked...
