Hi. I've just started an NPC mod this week and I'm looking for a male drow voice. I liked the one in IWD2 but I can't use it in BG2, sadly. My NPC is a drow weaponmaster, Lasaonar, actualy, who's already in the game. I have most of everything sorted, his dialogue, spawning point after you're successful in challenging him and have also killed his mistress, interactions and some crossmod banter with two other NPC mods (my own characters I'm planning to make later). So, if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

Beginner looking for drow sounds.

Hey there and welcome, it's always nice to see a new face around here.
As for your request, it would probably help if you could provide a little more detail.
- What kind of sound set are you looking for?
- Will a set of generic character sounds (the feedback sounds npcs give for being selected, attacking, being exhausted..) be sufficient or are you looking for a fully fletched sound set with custom dialogue lines?
In both cases the Resource Request Forum would probably be the appropriate place to post a request. (Although the forums are not that busy these days and people will probably find your topic here as well.. )
You mentioned a sound set from IWD2.
Is there an artistic reason you can't use it or are you simply not familiar with the required tools to extract and implement it? If it's the later, someone might be able to help you out with extracting it.
Proper voice acting is probably the hardest to come by when making a mod and there are many good npc mods out there without a unique sound set or a sound set at all.
In any case, you'd want to provide a little more detail about your mod (how big is it, how far into development are you, …) or at least offer that kind of information to potential voice actors.
Many mods get abandoned at some point or take years to finish and people are usually less inclined to dedicate their time and efforts to a mod that is only in a conceptual phase and might never see the light of day.
I hope I didn't discouragement you, there is of course always a way to make things happen and even without a unique voice set a npc mod can still be very successful and entertaining.

At the moment my character (Lasaonar) keeps shouting 'The drow rule supreme' and ' To walk apart from house and queen' etc. The mod is nearly complete, including the TOB part. However, it probably needs ironing out and dialogues rewritten, spelling and gramar corrected. It was for personal use, just to see if I could make my own mod as there are many out there that are very good and playing the game about 30 times I began to ask myself, 'can I do that?'. Once I have a clear idea of what to do then I will make other NPC's to publish and If I am happy with the Lasaonar mod (He's not a broody Solaufein he's a Jarlaxle without the jewelry but doesn't shave his head) I will publish that also.
If there is a way to use the IWD2 Male Drow sounds in BG2 it would be a great help.

Hey, getting generic character sounds should be way easier than a full voice set, so that's a plus.
I must admit I haven't yet worked with sound files myself but I would assume that it's relatively easy to convert IWD2 sound files to BG since both run on the Infinity engine.
(NearInfinity should be able to do the job.)
For modification, there's probably a bunch of free-ware sound editors out there. Personally I've used Audacity with some success in the past (modding unrelated).
Handling these files with WeiDu might be slightly harder (or not).
I can only tell from my own gaming experience that most mods seem to store those files in .ogg format and convert them back to .wav on installation. Whether this is simply done to minimize file size (and thus could potentially be ignored with today's download speeds) or has more complex reasons, I can't tell.
In any case, since there is an abundance of mods with custom sound files around, I have no doubt that you'll get more competent advice from an experienced modder soon.
PS: Also, have you checked out the modding tutorial page? There might even be a tutorial on sound files...

Thanks for the advice Ulb. I discovered someone had converted the IWD1/2 voicepack sounds for BG2 (Greystar). It's published on the sorcerers net. but when I click on download nothing happens. However, many years ago I did manage to copy some sound files from Thief the Dark Project and use them in IWD, can't remember how I did it but if I copy and backup all my files I can start poking around.
Thanks again Ulb, you've been a great help.
