Came across this the other day, wasnt sure if it had been posted or linked to previously. Interesting history about IE modding.

A lot of people here will remember Max. Some of us worked with him.

Did you actually read the rest of the article where Max admits that they failed woefully in this intent? I suspect not, because if you had then perhaps you would have been less inclined to take a single sentence out of context and poke fun at it.

Thanks for sharing that fearless; I learned quite a bit about Max I never knew.

And I can definitely sympathize with the burnout. It's hard to keep grinding, and I can only imagine how much harder it is when you're getting a ton of negative feedback.

Why is this Hypnotoad video so popu... ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD.

Fantastic read! I vaguely remember these times being a lurker back then (didn't play TDD in fact), but Dark Side of the Sword Coast I do remember :) I wish I had a strong resolve of cutting off from various things in my life, just as Max did with the modding scene when he felt he burned out.

Tbh i'm suprised it wasnt posted up before somewhere. I came across it when googling for some infinity engine stuff, read it, remembered the name MaxS from years ago when i used to visit the teambg forums. Found it very interesting and informative, about the modding scene in general back then, and the personal retrospective reflection on Max's own thoughts, emotions, motivations and goals. No doubt it did indeed shape a formative part of his life. Fair play to him for sharing it with us.

That's a real shame that Glory of Istar was actually never finished, though. I remember I liked the setting at that time.

Actually, I did, OP

The sentence is still funny, sorry!!

What is funny about it?

Her lips were red, her looks were free
Her locks were as yellow as gold
Her skin was white as leprosy.
The Nightmare Life-in-Death was she,
Who thicks man's blood with cold.

See, the funny element lies in, the knowledge of things that actually happened after the original intent! It's the same reason as to why the "famous last words" are funny - the essence of humor lies in the hindsight and the fact that you know more about the situation the subject did

Still don't see the humor - it was a massive project.  Yes, like a few others here I was around at that time.   Anyone who has worked on a huge project can sympathize - but I don't really find it funny,  More about biting off more than you can chew - been there/done that.

At the time of its making, it was the most technically advanced mod. It did things I didn't expect to be possible. It is now popular to diss TDD, but even todays romance only mods don't match it. So... I dare to say, TDD is still in the top half of the available mods?
