This has been bugging me for years. Every post on the internet does not address my specific concerns, so if an experienced modder could help me get to the bottom of this, I would appreciate it.

Known:

Free action conflicts with boots of speed and haste (not a problem for me)

Version

Original BGT (not enhanced edition version, but pre-patched with the patches for TotSC and ToB)

Installed mods:

--BGT (newest)

--Gibberlings3 fixpack (newest)

--Gibberlings3 tweakpack (newest)

--Worldmap mod (newest)

--Generalized Biffing (newest)

Questions:

With the above version/mods,

1) Will boots of speed still give the extra 1/2 apr?

2) Will boots give haste or just extra movement speed?

3) Will haste or improved haste conflict with boots?

4) Any problem with backstab with boots, haste, or improved haste?

5) Is there a mod that will make boots of speed so that all of the following will be true?

     A) boots only give increased movement speed

     B) casted haste will behave normally (not conflicting with boots)

     C) casted improved haste will behave normally (not conflicting with boots)

     D) backstabs are not impaired by boots, haste, or imp haste

6) If this mod exists, can I install it after I have already installed generalized biffing?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1. Boots of Speed have never granted extra attacks in any iteration of the game.

2. Boots of Speed have never granted Haste, only additional movement speed. The Fixpack does correct the bug where the original Boots would prevent Haste from working.

3. Without the Fixpack, yes.

4. This was addressed in the official patch, I believe.

5, A-D. Fixpack

6. Fixpack should be installed first.

It's not clear from your post, but if you want Free Action to only prevent impediments to movement while still allowing beneficial effects (e.g. Free Action prevents Slow but not Haste), I'd suggest adding Miloch's PnP Free Action mod to your mix.

At least the GOG's BG2 the boot01.itm used the opcode #16(Haste) with zero in the parameters: which should be the +1 to attack per round and double movement rate, so it's actually the solo Hasted effect, while the bootdriz.itm uses the #126, which is just the +9 to runspeed. So you are wrong with the 1. And as that prevent the use of the haste opcode again, as it's already in use, so the 2 is wrong too. :P  It's so nice that the days fixpack master remembers the original game so wrong.
I believe this actually corrected in one of the ToB patches... it's either the v26498 or v26499, so the boot01.itm is in the BG2's override folder.
Anyways the normal BG1's boot's use the #126 opcode and the opcode #101 to prevent the haste effect, so they didn't ever have the actual effect, like you remember... erhm, I can't say which outlet this BG1 is from, but anyways.

PS, I used the Near Infinity to look this stuff up, but I don't think it's effecting the content of the game that deeply.

EDIT: Ouh, yeah, the avatar icon is tied to the opcode #16, which can be seen as a bad thing especially if you hate the things... but it's a tweak pack problem, not a fixpack... unless you really wish to use 3 effects in Fixpack and then use the Tweak Pack to remove the icon ---solution. But to each of their own.

Cool, so it sounds like I don't have anything to worry about. It just always was disconcerting to see the haste icon on my avatar and not know wtf was going on. All the posts on the internet were not clear, but thanks to both of you for clearing everything up. Keep up the good work.

Just checked my BG2 GOG install--yep, there it is, boot01 with Haste (16) with param2 = 2, meaning speed boost only. Let's check the biffed boots to be sure--yep, same thing.

I was, and remain, correct.
