How is Imoen (specifically her class) handled during the transition from BG to BG2?
If I choose to dual class her to thief/mage during BG, I assume that she will retain her stats and class in BG2? But if I choose not to dual class her to a mage, what happens during the transition? Will she dual class to a mage then with my BG stats/lvl, or will she revert to the starting Imoen stats/lvl from BG2?
Or will she retain my BG stats/lvl, AND NOT dual class to a mage?

If Imoen is in the party during the transition, then ALL her current stats, class and kit is extended to the BG2 game from that character. Just like everyone else during the transition that rejoins the party in the BG2 game.
So if you don't want to make her into a mage between BG1->BG2, you can do that by taking her into the party before you talk to Belt the last time, then talk to him, "travel" to Amn, and she will be rescuing you as a thief(or what ever she was, custom kit etc), with unchanged stats, skills, level and (possible) spells... she might get an XP boost...
