Diamond placement fails during the teleport, CTD every time; it looks to me like it's trying to load a map called ardem.  When I try to MoveToArea this also fails with a crash.  The room ardem1 (the next room in DoD) DOES load via MoveToArea but again if you try to go back to the 1st room it fails.  Does anyone have a working ardem map or a solution to fix it?

weidu.log's content please. And the baldur.ini's too. Open the files with Notepad.

This is just to make sure that you didn't mishandle something that you could have missed. As in, the intention is to help, without knowing the exact facts.

OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

Had to network the computer that runs bgt, it doesn't usually get internet :) Everything's installed through Big World / Big Picture so nothing's manually installed, but here's the logs:

baldur.ini:

Spoiler

and weidu.log:

Spoiler

I'll also add that everything's installed under a Tactical setting.

Erhm:

[Alias]
HD0:=******
CD1:=*******
CD2:=*******
CD3:=*******
CD4:=*******
CD5=********

...
Uninst_dir=*******
Uninst_dir_25=*****

Seems a bit fishy. I understand if you don't wish, but ... you could say so. The Uninstall dirs have nothing unique about them, just saying.

Like mine are:

[Uninstall]
Uninst_dir=C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\{8DAE4336-2B71-11D4-9A6C-006067325E47}
Uninst_dir_25=C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\{B8C3B479-1716-11D5-968A-0050BA84F5F7}

Also:

3D Acceleration=0

...
BitsPerPixel=16

...
Use 3d Animations=0

Those could cause a mod cause a crash, it does at least with one 1PP's component, but you don't have it, but there could be others.

I would use these:

3D Acceleration=1

...

BitsPerPixel=32

...

Use 3d Animations=1

I did hide the installation directories, didn't say it specifically but I didn't see it as necessary.  Let me change the other things and see if it solves it - In the many years I've been running big picture/big world I've never had a .ini settings issue before (I tend to fully reinstall and replay it about every 2 years for the new /updated mods)

Didn't fix it; I'm still thinking it's an actual problem with the map, can anyone else teleport to ardem?

"But answer came there none.  And this was scarcely odd because ..." the party had been killed one by one.  To misquote Lewis Carrol's Walrus and the Carpenter.  I guess no one knows whether the map ardem actually works for DoD ...

I took the time to check this last night and the area crashes on my install too, but I think I've managed to fix it. When I loaded the area up in near infinity, the field for the rest encounters looked like it had gotten incredibly corrupted and I took some time to create a fixed version of the area that I've attached to this post, as well as try and track down the cause. If you drop the attachment into the override folder it should in theory fix your problem, but after you try it can you please post to let me know whether or not it worked?

As for the technical details, it seems like the area file that came with the actual mod, had an incorrect song offset, and incorrect rest encounters offset, but said errors weren't enough to prevent the area from loading correctly (The file I've attached though should have the proper offsets set). However it seems the big world fixpack copies a new version of the area over the one that comes with the mod that is supposed to fix malformed creatures from the rest encounters, but just seems to totally screw up the area instead causing the ctd upon entering. I'll report this in the main big world thread to try and get future versions of the fixpack fixed, once I have confirmation that my corrected area actually works for someone other then me.

You do know the modded game will have it's songlist build during the installation process and thus the offset can vary by a large amount depending on what is installed. The only correct way to make it correct is to update the file during the installation.

By offset I don't mean the reference to the actual song to use. I meant that the part of the header of the file that was pointing to where in the file to actually read what songs to use was pointing instead to the part of the data for the animations. I have no idea how such an error happened in the first place, but before I corrected it near infinity showed some obvious errors day song being Unknown - 4294967295, and afterwards, near infinity displayed that the area had no music except for battle music from the vanilla game. Similarly the rest encounter offset was also pointing to data for the animations and as such listing non existent creatures as possible encounters, and when I corrected the offset the area now shows the data for a normal area with no rest encounters.

Definitely loads the map now so clearly this is the fix.  Linthar, I want to thank you, I knew I had stumbled into a map issue, just didn't know how to fix it.  Boy that's a tough first battle, really struggling against that mage vampire ...
