Hello there,

I have a strange bug concerning the travel time between "Athkatla City Gates" (Area 11) and various outside areas of BG2. Near Infinity tells me that the travel time should be around 20-24 hours (Area 11 -> Area "outside" or vice versa) for most of the areas. In my game however, the travel time always takes 8 hours! Only North Forest (area 19 in first picture) and Small Teeth Pass (area 16 in first picture) are the areas which have a correct travel time of 12 hours (Gates -> 16,19 or 16,19 -> Gates).

Editing the worldmap.wmp file of my savegame (second picture), respectively changing the distance scale value to a different one does not change anything. It stays at 8 hours, whereas it should be 4 hours (changed value to 1). Travel values between other areas however do change when being edited. For example, the distance from the Druid Grove to Trademeet or Windspear Hills and Druid Grove. It seems like that the link informations for most city - outside areas are somehow bugged.

Another strange thing is, that most outside areas do not have any Target Area information for the City parts of Athkatla, but the City Gates. The thing however is that I still can travel to any part of Athkatla when I am for example in the Windspear Hills. And, who would have guessed? It only takes me 8 hours as well, whereas I would need 16 hours from the Windspear Hills to d'Arnise Keep!

Help would be much appreciated.

The game usually uses the shortest distance to go around places, even if it's at the opposite sides of the maps... so it's likely that there's an area between all the other areas and it takes 8 hours to travel to and from that area to a the said areas. But the question is, what do you loose by having this ? Realism ? Yeah, right.

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

Thank you very very much for the answer Imp!!

That was exactly the info I needed!

The area from the mod "Fishing for Trouble" called Government District West had really wacky link information for most of the outside areas! I changed them to City Gate values and now everything is exactly how I want it to be!

Concerning realism. Yes, I am quite a perfectionist (autist *g*) when it comes to stuff like this.

Must be my german genes or something like that ...

That's an intentional part of the design of the worldmap (the vanilla one). City Gates is a sort of a hub which handles all linking to and fro Athkatla. You are not limited to travelling along any single link. So long as the two areas are connected by any chain of links, you can travel to it.

The linking in the Worldmap mod's FFT tables is indeed screwy. Will fix.
