Problem with Sarevok in the Abyss

Hello everybody,

 

I'm playing a BGT megamod with a whole lot of mods installed using BWS. Was able to solve the few problems occuring ingame with help from the great modding sites out there (including this one). But now I'm stuck. At the beginning of TOB after defeating Ilasera I get teleported to the abyss, where there's a welcoming speech from a solar. Then it's Sarevok once again. He's supposed to ask me to revive him by offering a small part of my soul. All he does in my game is saying something like "Finally you have arrived". When I press to continue the dialogue nothing happens. The dialogue is over. When I talk to him again it all repeats. I can't continue because the energy field closing off the first test does not open.

 

I could not find anything helpful on the internet. Since I have no idea what particular mod might be causing this, I put my request here.

Well, seems like everybody's been deterred by the huge Weidu.log. I wouldn't want to have to go thru it either. But - hey - you asked for it.
This is what I found out by myself: On one of our German forums there was a hint that this problem is caused by my party members trying to give their two cents when talking to Sarevok (he's not truly popular after all, isn't he?)and this gets in the way with the dialogue. I don't know if their remarks were added by Banter Pack, Extended Banters or NPC Project or whatever. The suggested solution in the other forum was to remove the NPCs (in this particular case Viconia was the problem) and iniate dialogue again. I tinkered around with the party constellation and in my game it was Imoen and Jaheira, who wanted to make remarks (not Viconia, dunno why). Edwin and Minsc were not involved. Other NPCs were not around so I can't say anything about them. Iniated dialogue again and indeed it proceeded - but only to the part when Sarevok was revived with a portion of my soul. After that Sarevok had nothing more to say to me. Stuck again!
An older topic on this forum stated that in that game it was possible to proceed with the dialogue (after removing the NPCs), but the game was screwed from there on with any dialogue or remark coming from them.
But here's how this genius worked around: He started a TOB game (yes, not just continuing from/in the BG2 part of BGT) and imported the last savegame from the BG2 part and - tadaaaa - everything is just fine. Sarevok gives his speech, the NPCs their remarks, Sarevok is revived and opens the door to the first test. Heureka!

Just a question to this solution - would you not miss Illasera and the other content of the stone heads area this way?

If you have e.g. Longer Road you would miss the initial talk with Ellesime to start the mod. I am not sure what else may be missing later. Definitely my own mod (even if still under development) will loose some triggers if you skip this transition.

You start normally -SPOILERS- at the stone heads, talk to them, fight Illasera, go to hell, talk to solar, then talk to Sarevok, then do the first quest. -End of SPOILERS- Since I did not have the time to proceeded any further yet, I can't say if there's other problems coming up, but I doubt it. And I cannot say anything about Longer Road, because I didn't play it. Sorry to ask: What is your mod?

I just checked it with an old savegame and in my BGT installation you will start right at the beginning at the stoneheads when importing a savegame. So everything happening in ar4000, regardless which mods you have installed, should work fine and nothing will miss later on.

For my own mod (SandrahNPC) there would be no issue provided you would use the last autosave of BG2, as TDD is required for the mod, this would be the transition to the laboratory where Mary Magus sends the party into ToB.

By the way, I played through these transitions many times with various installations of the game and I never had the Sarevok problem - but as I far as I recall I rarely had any of the Bioware NPCs in the party at that time, except maybe Viconia.

I am halfway thru TOB now and erverything works fine.

@Roxanne: I've played with a truckful of different BGT-megamod installations and have yet to encounter an installation without unexpected bugs or problems. The thing is that there's solutions (sometimes pretty old ones) to most of them on the many forums. So I'm not the first and only one to encounter them. There really should be a collection of those problems and someone who administers them. But -sigh- there never will be...
