Here's my latest stripped-down multimod installation for BG2 SoA/ToB, under Windows 7 Ultimate, as part of my continuing quest to get all the mod components that I want into a single install, and play the game with mod content behaving as it should. I began with the gog.com download, then used a hybrid of BWP install order and my own prior successes and failures to build up the installation.

Please see attached weidu.log file...

I'm not convinced that 1PP HQ Music is working properly in this installation; the mod installed "successfully," but the game music sounds the same as in vanilla. Everything else appears to behave well, at least into Chapter 2.

Any and all feedback is most welcome, especially if it will help me improve this process. I have a bunch more mods that I want to include, but I feel the safest approach is to add a few mods at a time over and above this install, then play to test the game, and continue. Makes for endless restoring to clean install and starting over, but after so many years, I'm used to that ;)

Things didn't go as they should have with that installation, so I'm skipping some mods, fixing issues with at least one NPC mod, and reinstalling again. More updates to follow...

Still getting a CTD about nine seconds after the first Promenade cutscene and NPC comments. Error reports indicate that there's a creature with size >= 0 in the area, which causes the crash, but I cannot determine which .cre is at fault, or how to fix it.

My roundabout way to try to solve this is to skip mod components or entire mods and reinstall everything from a clean BG2 Install. All I know is that the error is due to either an updated version of one of the mods, or one of the mods I've added more recently. In the past, I arrived at a stable, playable multimod installation, but it didn't include all the mods I'd like to install, so the blind search continues...

Can you try after installing the lolfixer? (Use this TP2 until the BWPFixpack v15.4 is out :))

My guess is that Lolfixer should be installed at the very end of the installation of mods, or at least very close to the end. Am I on the right track?

Also, if I use Lolfixer (and I mention here that a couple components fail to install for me), should I skip any other mod components that fix or balance things like creatures and areas? I'll gladly use this mod instead of Crefixer, since it goes so far beyond that mod.

I'll give this a shot, as I'm in the last third of my way through installing mods (again). Just finished installing a host of NPCs, so now it's on to the graphic and sound mods, then tweaks, then "closer installation" mods, and that will complete the installation process.

Well it's there so it's most effectively fixing the possible problems, as installing mods that have problems after it just leaves you with the mods problematic content... you could actually install the lolfixer more than ones with a different file name in the .tp2 file and it would solve that too(well it would possibly just take a bit more space)., then install the mods that don't install due to them and then install the second lolfixer, then Widescreen mod and then Generalized Biffing...

Since you mentioned crashing when playing I assumed you had finalized your mods :P

When you do want to install it though - small tip: Run the "lolfixer_ONLY_DEBUG_MODE.bat" supplied in the BWPFixpack to install the lolfixer (comment out line 2 in that BAT to prevent it from uninstalling it once installed)

Running it through the BAT will dump all the nice little messages about what the lolfixer is doing into a "lolfixer.log" file that you can share here

Running it through the BAT will also give you a blank cmd window until every component of the lolfixer installs (you can check the windows taskmanager or something to see if setup-lolfixer.exe is working )

Also, if the lolfixer does throw a fatal error, do post and I'll try to get it resolved ASAP :)

EDIT: You can use the Lolfixer_LOGGER.bat (it's the ONLY_DEBUG_MODE.bat with line 2 removed )

I don't have a widescreen display (*shock, gasp*), so I don't use Widescreen mod, and I've had mixed results with Generalized Biffing, so I'm hesitant to install that again. If memory serves, the only time I get into trouble installing that is when I also install CtB and/or SoS, as those mods apparently do some biffing of their own, and then the game gets "confused" when trying to locate and read some files.

Heh, the display doesn't need to be a widescreen display... just something that can show more than the standard 1024x768 resolution the normal game works fine with, say like 1440 x 900, 1366 x 768, 1280 x 800.... just as long as it's anything from 640 x 480 up... it's not actually just for widescreen gaming, as you get to set the resolution at the start of the install(and it will play well as long as your display can show the resulting output. ).

The Generalized Biffing works fine with the CtB and/or SoS mods, the only thing that the different biffings will have is that you still can't chain uninstall the CtB or SoS like you can the Generalized Biffing, and that's because the weidu's command line executioners can't keep up with the chain uninstalls.

I would use widescreen mod if it didn't disable windowed mode. I actually prefer a window which takes up the screen.

You should generally do generalized biffing. It makes a big difference with large installations.

Then just set the resolution to reflect that... aka, start the game and make it to use the windowed mode, then install the widescreen mod with a setting that covers ~99/100ths of the screen, like say 1900x1050(on a 1920x1080 max screen ) and play on.

The bolded part is a thing of the very distant past now

Basic rule of thumb : Install generalized biffing if your operating system takes noticeable time to load the override folder (windows explorer.exe or whatever Mac/Linux equivalent of explorer.exe you have)

Makes sense. I'm tempted to install Gen Biff over my current installation, which appears to be working fine in Chapter 2. I have a party that has done most of the Athkatla side stuff, and is now starting on the basement level of DeArnise Keep :) Party is three custom characters, plus Kivan, Haer'Dalis the Conductor (Zyraen's Conductor mod), and Nalia (just because of the quest, and I'll drop Nalia upon completion).

Yeah, I'm running the game under the configuration described in my sig.

Weidu updates all mods to v238 when I install, and I saw at least one instance of a mod that reported that TobEx is up to date when I installed...but I don't recall which mod that was.

Yeah, that happens because you had a mod that has the v23800 on it, and that's necessary to do so all the following mods can successfully use the options .. like reading the changes the operations do in order to function properly.
and I saw at least one instance of a mod that reported that TobEx is up to date when I installed...but I don't recall which mod that was.
Yep, probably one mod that uses the ToBEx, there are several that would install it if it wasn't present. This is all normal as intended things. No need to worry at all.

The good news with this installation is that everything is behaving as it should. Party in "test" game is currently in Spellhold, going through the tests of sanity/clarity, after having exited Spellhold Gauntlet :)

Does the weidu.log in the first post still represent the latest incarnation ? Just asking as there were talks about other things, and the post was not edited at all. And the topic should probably also mention that this is on Mac. Yes, I am a terrible person to request that you post that all over, but I have an excuse, you always forget. :P
