Am getting closer and closer to finishing ToB for my first time, but have encountered another dialogue looping problem.

When I talk to Lycanth the Mad, his dialogue keeps looping.  I found a partial solution by quickly moving away after talking with him, but that does not get me the Scroll of Reversal.

Have cast a stone to earth spell on the stoned adventurers and sent them to look for a gauth eyestalk, but when they return they always attack me, get killed by my stalker form, and then:  "Bondari Reloads...." is displayed, with the dialogue looping similar to what happened with Lycanth the Mad.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I could fix this dialogue looping problem?

Or, is it somehow possible to instead simply CLUAConsole or EEKeeper the Scroll of Reversal?

Thanks.

Look for these Globals after you talked to the mad mage

Global("IycanthQuest","GLOBAL")

Global("TalkedtoIycanth","GLOBAL")

They should be 1 when you have received the quest. You can either send the adventurers for the eyestalk or get it yourself. You can also fight and kill the mad mage for the scroll (if you find the secret entrance to his lab through one of the pools)

Thanks for the tips you provided.

I wasn't able to open the secret entrance to Lycanth's lab, so what I ended up doing was using EEKeeper to give myself the "Reversal Scroll".

That allowed me to continue (Hooray!), and I've now killed Abizagal, and am getting ready to venture forth for Balthazar.

Thanks again, and I'm sure glad SHS forums are back up.

Not that the minor XP and items gained by killing him will probably matter by the point you find him, but if you or anyone else has this problem again and wants to kill Iycanth, simply CTRL+J to the inside of his lab. The dialogue loop might indeed be caused by improper globals (the correct global not being set when you talk the first time, leading to the NPC initiating the same conversation which the unchanged global erroneously tells it to) or other problems. Mega mod installs can get really hinky, so much so that I really think anyone looking to play through should at least have a cursory grasp of NI (be careful, this can seriously break things if you don't have any idea what you're doing - make backups! It is the only tool that can fix many of the trickier problems which SK is incapable of fixing, however...) and especially Shadowkeeper (so easy, so useful, no excuse not to use it).

It is a repeated problem in Torvald's installation (He has reported several of those occurances already). Sometimes Globals appearing inside dialogues are not set and he enters into these loops. Being so far into the game there probably is no other way than to use the console or NI in those cases. And ask for hints here on the Forum...

Any clue how exactly the dialogue looped? :P

I mean like the actual lines and options you chose that made it loop... I just did a full grep on the entire BWP for shits and giggles and found almost every NPC has an interjection in this dialogue (so many dialogue... much popular... wow!) but they all seem to have the relevant triggers in place

Sorry, I have no idea what caused the dialogue looping problems.

I manually installed about 40 mods to BG2 SoA & ToB, and thought the mods were installed in the right order and didn't have any conflicts, but ran into problems immediately on starting the game.  After copying about a dozen files from backup folders, the missing file error messages from ToBEx went away, but the game started having intermittent dialogue looping, random missing dialogue, etc.

As the game went on, it just became progressively worse, and I finally ended up in the Abyssal Plane with hopelessly borked dialogue choices that looped endlessly, no matter what.  Had to declare a moral victory and move on.  Too bad, as I was about to finish my first ever ToB game.  Oh, well.

Have now started a game of Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition, with just nine (9) mods installed.  It's not quite as fun as BG/BG2, but I haven't played IWD in a long time, so this should be a nice break.  Once I'm finished with IWDEE, I'll try another BG/BG2 game, but this time will give BWS another try instead of doing such a big manual install as before.

Thanks to everyone for helping me get so far with all my borked dialogue problems.  At least I made it to the Abyssal Plane this time.  Hooray!!!!
