Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a laptop to supplement my main computer when guests arrive so that we can play a BG2 MegaMod game.

BG2 is an old game with old specs, but a MegaInstall game presumably taxes the system more.

Any thoughts on the minimum specs for a playable multiplayer BG2 MegaMod game?  My thought is to get as cheap a laptop as possible without suffering lag.

Atleast 4GB RAM, 100GB disk space and a CPU with the highest clock speed possible - number of cores don't matter for BG2

Correct. Fast 1 core speed, but how little is good enough.

Well, really, anything made within the last 5 years should do... even your phone might be enough(if it was done in the last year).
And the 100 GB is way over... unless the Operation System consumes ~50% of that space.

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

I guess 2GHz is good enough for a game that was made for 500MHz systems

@Jarno: My BWP workspace clocks at a cool 35GB so yeah... 100GB might be overkill but come the fuck on, can you even buy disks smaller than that these days?

There's like 2 times too many hertzes there, cause if you look at the BGConfig, exe's settings, you'll notice the low limit being 200 MHz's, not 500... yeah, I am totally screwing with you, but still, I am telling the actual truth.
@Lollorian... not with a SATA port no, but a USB port, yeah.  :tease:

That's true. All these system requirements assume that you play the game as conceived by the designers.

I still use a single-core CPU on my legacy rig (it's a 2.2Ghz Athlon) and I can't play Stratagems. Great mod but those bloat-scripts are simply too much for my system. -_-

Did you Gen Biff the game ? Or how large was your Override folder ?
The script being ran 15 time per second, and being ~1 to 2 MB's total, becomes quite fast a rather large amount of loaded data, especially when there's more than one monster running those 5 files at the same time....
