Is it true, that these bows do equal damage?

Despite the fact, that the description says +2 vs. +3 for the damage of long bow vs. composite long bow, and despite the fact, that indeed BOW04.itm (the long bow) has the ability "launcher" that gives 0d6+2 damage vs. BOW02.itm (the composite long bow) with "laucher" 0d6+3 damage, I can't regocnize any difference between the bows.

I'm using Taimon's game option "Extra Combat Info=1" in the ini-file and vanilla arrows (AROW01.itm) yield +2 damage to roll using whatever of these bows.

That would depend on what version of the game you are playing and mods you are using. For example in my BGT game longbow +1 just gives +2 THACO without extra damage and composite longbow +1 same THACO and just +1 damage...

Of course You are completely right stressing the impact of mods including their versions and whatsoever.

And of course I should and do apologize for not having published my WEIDUlog

Spoiler

But as You can see it's fairly a plain vanilla BGT install pimped by (ancient, not modern beta) SCS, IR and SR accompanied by convenience mods.

So in fact I'm asking to confirm, that this in an undiscovered engine bug. (Hoping for not to be!)

Definitely not an engine bug as my longbows work just like as in ToB on which BGT game engine is based. You will have to excuse my rusty german language ( just kidding, I don't speak it ) as I can't see if you installed this BGT tweaks component ( or something similar ) :

  1. Item BG1-ification: This component converts some of the items to behave more like the Baldur’s Gate I version. Changes are separated into sub-components that include prices, stack sizes, lore requirements, scroll casting level, and item behaviours (strength requirements, damage, range, power, and various bonuses).

That being said ( written, sorry ) my prime suspect is: Item Revisions by Demivrgvs: V3 Beta 1.16. You should read item descriptions from that mod. And to be sure is it your suspicion about those two bows correct, check their item files with Infinity Explorer or Near Infinity tools.

Sadly experiencing my english getting more and more rusty every day I perfectly understand Your uncertainty about having or not having installed BG1-ification.

For certain I didn't.

Nevertheless You spotted the X: IR's component 17 (weapon changes) does the trick.

Quoting the readme teaches us:

"All Bows now cause bonus damage equal to enchantment level, but provide only an extra half attack per round instead of an extra full attack. Composite bows also deal additional damage, equal to the bonus provided by the strength required to equip them."

And here You go with strength requirement 16 which leads to +1 plus enchantment +1 equals 2 and You are completely right in NOT assuming an engine bug.

Thanks for Your effort, well, mainly Your insight....

kudos
