Expanded Thief Stronghold for EET

I have made the Expanded Thief Stronghold mod (originally by Gebhard Blucher) available for EET.

The mod adds some further quests to the thief stronghold in BG2 and imports Narlen and Black Lilly from the BG1 Shadow Thieves to Amn.

The conversion includes
- All fixes from BWFixpack for the mod
- Updated portraits
- An option to select the improved Mae'Var component directly during install
- An option to make the stronghold available for any PC.
(Note - the two options existed in the mod but where not selectable in the install - you had to extract and overwrite files instead, I adjusted this to up-to-date practice as optional components.)
 
 

    Reminds me that I should probably make a note somewhere prominent on that site to let people know that they have permission to do whatever they want with any of the old BG mods that I have.

Sorry, this was my first attempt to add a mod to the BWS (Maybe you are aware that the tool lost its *professional* maintainers). I think that all the errors are related to the same source, i.e.misnaming the Archive name (EET_Expanded_Thief_Stronghold-master.zip) in a BWS entry, Even though Alien helped me with it, we may not have caught all. I will revise it.

Meanwhile, if you skip the mod in BWS, pause the BWS, extract the mod manually and run the setup exe, does it give you an error then? If it installs manually you can just continue the BWS.

I investigate this issue and I'm afraid that there a multiple problems with how things was done regarding the update and integration of this mod. I will post more at http://gibberlings3....showtopic=28740

I have completely revised the resource naming to make it unambiguous with the old mod.

New pull request to BWS submitted.

Hmm, does this have option to guild the BG1 thief stronghold with the BG2 one and unionize the thieves in both regions ?

OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

Two mod related questions:

 

- An option to make the stronghold available for any PC.

I assume that this component is a lot poorer version of Tweaks Anthology "Multiple Strongholds" - is there a reason for such component in the first place? Why reinvent the wheel again?

Poorer in the way that it affects only one stronghold. This is part of the original mod and dates back long before Tweaks Anthology, which by itself took it from older sources. Historians know who invented it or who re-used it. Anyway, there should be no problem with several mods doing the same here, as they all use the same globals and produce the same results. For the player this is transparent.

 

- An option to select the improved Mae'Var component directly during install

I have serious doubts about the quality of the 'improved'. Does this components have any comparison between Tactics and SCS version of the same component? Does it overwrite files? Does it interfere/overlap (adding saving throws/resistance twice) with them?

There is an (original) author's warning that other mods may do a similar thing. The best solution would be to exclude this component in BWS if Tactics or SCS is selected, giving those components priority over this lesser effort.

Hi,

I've used "Expanded Thief Stronghold" in my current run and everything was perfect during my run :) but may be this :

When a Thief get caught, I go break in the prison to free him.
The problem (?) : sometimes there are lot of guards outside and inside the prison (to prevent me from freeing him) and others there are nobody outside and only few guards inside...

I can't say if this is a bug or not (may be it's intended... or maybe it was also the case in the original "Expanded Thief Stronghold"). It is not really a problem... I wanted you to know :)

Nevertheless, I will take a look into it, there is no reason why we cannot improve the mod.

Nevertheless, I will take a look into it, there is no reason why we cannot improve the mod.

I forgot to say that it was SOOOOOOO LONG I had not played this mod :)

I will probably add it to all my futures installs :)
