Hi All:

Working on three computers at once.  You know that leads to trouble.

Mess up deleting Baldur's Gate and  BGII - SoA.  I forgot to use the game to delete them.  Now I cannot  reinstall the games as no install icon appears on the primary discs.

With Windows XP there were Registry entries you could delete to allow you to reinstall the games.  I lost those.  I looked in the Windows 7 Registry and removed entries to the games, but cannot find those entries which will allow me to reinstall the game.  If anyone knows which entries need to be removed to allow one to get the Installation part restarted I would be appreciate if you would post them.

Thanks for any help,

Tom

Hi All:

Removed all the  Registry entries with "Baldur" in them.  I can now install Baldur's Gate.  I still cannot reinstall BGII - SoA  and ToB.

The Registry keys are different if you install a French or an English game, so I won't give you those I use. But.... I found this link in a French forum for those who play with an English game : http://web.archive.o...tml?faqID=40#11

Maybe it might help you ;)

Hi Gwendolyne:

Thanks to your post I was able to find a solution and load my game.  I have a partial solution.

Baldur's Gate:  I tried a few words.  What worked was deleting all entries with the word "Baldur".  There are a lot of "Baldur"s and I did not identify which was the key Registry entry that needed to be removed.

BGII - SoA: I found one Registry entry that had the world, "BG2Main".  I removed it and then was able to install BGII - SoA.

When you see the word "INSTALL" on the first page, you know the problem is fixed.

Thanks again Gwendolyne,

Tom

tomkaz, there's such a thing called "uninstall", you should start to learn to use it !

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

Hi The Imp:

I know there is a thing as "UNINSTALL", but I cannot find it on BG2.  It works great with BG1, as both the "INSTALL" and "UNINSTALL" show up in the upper left hand corner window.  But with BG2 I have no luck.  The "INSTALL" for both BGII - SoA and ToB both show up in the upper left hand corner window, but there is no window in either BGII - SoA and ToB game which has the "UNINSTALL" key.

I have an original game that has 6 discs between BGII - SoA and ToB.  The 6th disc is the BONUS disc that came with the original BGII - SoA game.  I tried the boot disc from both BGII - SoA and ToB, but nothing removes the game.  In case it matters, my OS is Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit.

I did check out baldur.ini.  It has a [Uninstall] section which lists two Registry keys.  they are Uninst_dir=C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\{8DAE4336-2B71-11D4-9A6C-006067325E47} and Uninst_dir_25=C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\{B8C3B479-1716-11D5-968A-0050BA84F5F7}.  Tracked them down but could find two entries which brought the "INSTALL" window back, but nothing that indicated what prevented the "UNINSTALL" window from working as it normally should.

Any advice about any thing else to try?

Tom

The uninstall is located in the DEFAULT windows 7 one, just like with XP, Vista, 7 and 10, it's called Windows "Control Panel", go there and then open the Programs subsection where it lists (all official) installed programs, it allows you to uninstall programs right from there. ...

The install key info is definitely not useful as it's part of the old system that was upgrades ... what, more than a decade ago.

Hi The Imp:

I tried some things.  No I did not have to edit the Registry.  With my older BGII - SoA system, things may be different.  I have the Bonus disc that came with BGII - SoA.

With Baldur's Gate and NTotSC, I need to remove the game with the "Uninstall" key.  It pops up in the same window that the "Install" key uses. If I delete these with the Programs list, I need to edit the Registry to get back the "Install" key.

With BGII - SoA and ToB, I need to remove these using the Programs list.  After they are deleted, the "Install" key shows up in its original place.

Thanks for the help,

Tom
