There are several durations available for changing, say, Wisdom, but all except one look temporary - they are shown in red or green. These can be removed or they expire, but the Instant/Permanent until death duration, the one that shows in white - and this is what Tomes etc. use - stays. I can't seem to eradicate the change either with Remove Effects or with Dispel. And I need the change to appear permanent rather than some kind of imposed effect. Is it possible to make the score revert?

Restoring abilities changed with Instant/Permanent until death?

This issue is documented on: https://gibberlings3...iming_modes.htm
A bit verbatim explanation
Effects with timing mode 1 are either:
a> modifying base stats, in this case it is a not removable instant effect that is not actually 'permanent' because it terminates after modifying the base stat.
b> staying around as a removable permanent effect. CTRL-R (and death) removes these.
Use these for tomes and other one time effects that modify base stats permanently and irrevocably.
Where shouldn't be used:
If you use these for kit abilities, duplicate effects may occur.
Effects with timing mode 9 are also permanent, CTRL-R (and death) doesn't remove them (usually). These are true permanent effects that would always stick to the target (except if the effect is inherently one shot, but then timing mode 1 wouldn't help you either).
Use these for class/kit abilities that should be removed by level change (level drain, kit change, etc) but otherwise shouldn't be affected by death.
Where shouldn't be used:
One time used ability modifications, if you do not want ability coloration (red or green).
So, tldr: ability modifications are either removable but colored or truly permanent but irrevocable
