Hello there.

So I grew up with BG, it was literaly my first fantasy game and my first RPG (I was 8 ).
Every few years I like to revisit the old stories and my childhood heroes, and of course I like some extra challenge everytime.
SO i was very pumped when I saw SCS.
I installed, for the first time a mega mod, using BWP.

But heres the problem: ENEMY SPELLCASTERS DONT ATTACK. This goes for all of them: Mages, Druics, Clerics. They just stand around, waiting to be killed. This problem has occured in BG 1 as well as BG2 and ToB.

 

Please tell me what to do. I am incredibly bumped out.

Should I reinstall the whole thing? If yes, is there a way to keep my savefile? I have already gone through half of BG1 and I wouldn't like to do it again.

Not attacking ? Does that include not casting ANY spells ? The SCS spellcasters usually tend to be very defensive, and if there's a problem with one spell, they might just be casting the same spell over and over...

Not even casting. Neither Walking. They just stand around like nothing is happening, their circle is red though, and my AI attacks them normally.

You can probably specify a creature that this happens to ? Say, for example, if it happens to the very first opponent in ToB, who is called "Illasera", To fully debug what happens, and if you can use the Near Infinity program... just follow the steps:
Find the .cre, using the search-> CRE/ITM/SPL/STO:
And type in the name, and make the search:

In this case I have an unmodified game and the .cre name was the same as the creatures, but that might not always happen, which is why I went this way...
You can then see from the View & Stats -view the highlighted scripts, Override ... file names that all end up with .bcs, those are the files that need to be debugged as they cause the problem.
To do that, I suggest to go into the game folder, copy any of the setup-*modname*.exe's and rename it as weidu.exe, this might also already exist.
Then you just need to use the weidu.exe via a new .bat file you can make by making a new .txt file in the folder, open it with Notepad, and copy these lines into it:
mkdir change-log
WeiDU.exe --log nul --change-log *file* >change-log/change-log.txt --out change-log
pause
And then edit that to your needs, from the above example, I would debug the files: grpsht01.bcs, illasera.bcs and inp1ivsg.bcs -files, which in the .bat code would be:
mkdir change-log
WeiDU.exe --log nul --change-log grpsht01.bcs >change-log/change-log1.txt --out change-log
WeiDU.exe --log nul --change-log illasera.bcs >change-log/change-log2.txt --out change-log
WeiDU.exe --log nul --change-log inp1ivsg.bcs >change-log/change-log3.txt --out change-log

The pause is there so you can observe what happened during the logging, you then just push enter to exit....
Yes, then you save that .txt file with the Notepad's "Save As..." feature as a .bat file, you can name it as you like, but it might be good to do so, say as "illasera.bat", as that's the file you
Your file should look different, so you need to adjust that.
This will make a folder called "change-log" into the game folder, where the files will be printed. Now you should then upload those as a file into a post, a .zip archive file is preferred, so we can take a look on all of them !

The folder will also contain backups from the modified files, which are named grpsht01.00001.bcs, grpsht01.00002.bcs ... which you can use to try to find out where the problem lies, as you just need to remove the number from the middle of the file and copy-paste the file into the override folder and reload a game that the .cre has not appeared yet into, by loading a save from a previous area, or starting a new ToB game, in Illasera's case.

I will do as you said. But know that this affects all spellcasters: The assassin in Nashkels Inn, The Wizard in Mutamins Garden, the Shadow Druids in the Cloakwood, I even struck the priest of helm in nashkel to see if he'd do something. He turned hostile but just kept staying there, doing nothing.
Funnily enough only in 2 instances did hostile spellcasters act at all: The Flaming Fist guy who hunted Viconia (Casting Hold Person and such), and Edwin (whom I struck to see if he'd act correctly, and he did cast color spray thrice and then attacked).
Ilasera acted normally, but the mage and the cleric who accompany her just stood around again.
If I'm going to isolate ALL the files of ALL the characters who are bugged, its probably gonna be dozens of files. Should I upload just a few, or do you really need all of them?

And thanks for your time btw. I really hope I can get this to work.

Like I said, we need the whole print out directory( all the files ). Yes, the file looks affected with bad juju, in the picture but ... I can't say nothing for sure, without the actual files. 1 confirmed case is all we really need. So start from there. Mutamin would be a good case. Yes, that's the wizards name. The Shadow Druids would be another...

Alright, I have reinstalled SCS, and the spellcasters act normally. (all of them until now)
BUT i've noticed something else scrolling through near infinity and looking at the DOS installing SCS.

It removed some actors, it said, and truly I went to Mutamins garden, where the hostile adventuring party is (those 4 that taunt you and then attack, Kirian, Peter, Lindin and one more.) Only 2 of them where present. (Kirian and Peter)
Also I saw some dialog files in grey. (look screenshot)

will this be a future problem, or is this normal?

If I have to do a full reinstall, can I keep the savegame by copying it into the fresh install again?

Jon1.dlg is not an issue - it does not exist. It was a placeholder in the cre file but never used.

The other chars get placed elsewhere in the game, they are moved to be with other similar level opponents to a party of 6, that spawn randomly ... it's part of a component.

You can, but that won't do much help for you when your dialog file is different in the save than in the game. Meaning that a string that's supposed to have a swords description is part of a dialog between two characters and the dialog then has a character name, which doesn't make sense, and the character has twenty miles long "name" that's part of a dialog option... ... don't even consider playing that game. And that actually not best description of the problem, but you should get the point hopefully. As in truth, it's no where near that linear.

And I also tested around a bit more, I started a new BG2 game, and the starting scene from Region of Terror didn't play this time.
I am very unsure as to if my meddling around with install/reinstall of SCS broke some mods.
Basically this RoT incident is my last concern. Is it supposed to play only the first time you make a new bg2 game? If yes, then my problems are solved

EDIT: The scene played, but for some reason, the area was half black (undiscovered). Is this some unimportant glitch?

It was the BP/SCS problem. I cannot find my older post, but problem was resolved by uninstalling individual BP AI components from creatures. Actually, restoring pre-BP script variables. I made a small WeiDu component doing that.
