Yes - a fully manual megamod installation. I haven't tried that before so we'll see how it will go. I will be using some advice from the BWP manual and some from the BWS order (newer mods) and some from common sense. I'll also be using the github fixpack, not the BWP one because it seems to contain more fixes.

I think I just have one question. It seems that both the BWP Installer and the BWS does extra things in the beginning of the installation to make everything work. Like with BWS there is stuff in log like

Spoiler

etc etc...

The list is pretty long and it seems to shuffle around some files. I guess.

Also the BWP manual says that it strongly recommends that the installer be used so that it can fix IDS files and whatnot.

Now considering I won't be using either of these two tools, is there something I should be doing about this manually? Or is it not important these days and it's just some legacy stuff? Can someone advice me?

To be honest, I have not done a manual install of a classic game for years but I used the tools and the BWP manual quite often in the past.

All those steps that you listed in the BWS extract are also done at one point or other in the manual when it describes some actions to be performed for a mod or in preparing a mod. The BWS does most of it at the beginning of the install automatically after it has unpacked the mods. Every now and then there are actions that can only be performed directly when installing the mod.

Provided the BWP manual has not changed its philosophy (I have not looked at more recent versions), then all of these operations will be individually be explained when it comes to a mod you want to install.

Since you mod the old game and this has not changed, you work on legacy stuff and you still need all those steps or you may have problems either during install or later in game. Only thing to consider are mods that have been updated between today and the release date of the manual, which may be some.

For BWS take into account that the actions you listed are performed after mod extraction. Thus only the subset required for your current selection will actually be executed.

Fair enough. BTW Roxanne. When going through the BWS (im checking where to download the mods) I notice some mods in the BGT section leads to "eet versions" on your github. Like https://github.com/R...hive/master.zip

Do they work on BGT still?

Yes for this case.

Note however that there are other cases where a mod uses different version and download links depending on old game or EE.

BWS would select the correct one automatically.
