Restore BG1 Spawns

By default, BGT uses a spawn group system devised by King Diamond back in the early days. Unfortunately, without all the research data and tools available today, the author had made incorrect assumptions regarding the area spawn points. King Diamond's system erroneously spawns all the creatures from the given spawn point slots together at the same time, which results in strange combinations of a fixed number of monsters, rather than same-type creatures in scaling numbers.

This supplement to BGT restores the classic BG1 area spawn points based on the correct spawning formula adjusted for the BG2 engine:

No. of spawned creatures = (Spawn Difficulty * Avg. Party Level * Party Size) / Creature Power Level with results rounded down

The restored spawns must be merged with BGT before you install it:

1. Copy the folder bgt and the file setup-bgt.exe extracted from the main BGT archive to your BG2 directory like you normally would, but do not run the installer.

2. Download Restore BG1 Spawns.

3. Copy the folder bgt extracted from the downloaded spawnfix.zip to your BG2 directory and allow replacing files.

4. Run setup-bgt.exe and install BGT like you normally would.

Compatibility note: Restore BG1 Spawns is fundamentally incompatible and should not be installed along with other BGT spawn mods, such as BGSpawn and BGT Tweak Pack (component "Altered Spawns").

If you would like to further tweak the restored spawns, you may optionally install BGT Spawn Tweak as described below.

BGT Spawn Tweak v1.0 Beta 1

This little mod allows you to tweak the parameters of the restored BG1 spawn points to change the difficulty of the encounters.

Installation steps:

1. Install the required Restore BG1 Spawns and BGT as instructed above.

2. Download BGT Spawn Tweak.

3. Copy the folder spawntweak and the file setup-spawntweak.exe extracted from the downloaded spawntweak.zip to your BG2/BGT directory.

4. Open the file config.ini, read the descriptions, and tweak the parameters to your liking.

5. Run setup-spawntweak.exe to install the mod with the configured parameters.

Compatibility note: BGT Spawn Tweak is fundamentally incompatible and should not be installed along with other BGT spawn mods, such as BGSpawn and BGT Tweak Pack (component "Altered Spawns").

Available tweaks:

* Spawn difficulty modifier

* Maximum number of creatures per spawn point

* Delay between entering an area and spawning

* Spawn probability

* Deactivate the spawn point after spawning once

* Disable all spawns

To calculate the desired spawn difficulty, use the spawning formula and the creature power level list below:

No. of spawned creatures = (Spawn Difficulty * Avg. Party Level * Party Size) / Creature Power Level with results rounded down

That looks like a fine little addition, or "supplement".  However, by calling it such does that imply that BGSpawn is still required to install later on?  I am assuming so but not 100% sure from the wording.  I would assume BGSpawn is still a must to get the more beefed up random ambushes, aka "waylays" that don't appear to be affected by these supplements.

Is BGSpawn still required to install later on?

Restore BG1 Spawns, along with the optional BGT Spawn Tweak, use the legacy spawn point system and are fundamentally incompatible with BGSpawn and other script-based spawn mods such as BGT Tweak Pack component "Altered Spawns." You shouldn't install these mods together.

Is BGSpawn still a must to get the more beefed up random ambushes, aka "waylays"?

According to the mod readme, component "Random Encounters Between Areas" requires the core BGSpawn component, which isn't compatible with Restore BG1 Spawns and BGT Spawn Tweak.

Thanks for your quick reply, can't wait to try out your tweaks.  I chose hardest difficulty (10) with up to 20 spawns, should be fun.

Congratulations on yet another correction to BGT, bringing this much-complained feature back into its original BG1 intent.

Ascension64 would indeed be proud.
