I'm attempting to mod BG for the first time, and TobEx isn't responding to any input I give it. I'm stuck in a terminal with a language select, but I cannot select english, or any other language for that matter. I already tried compatibility mode for win7 and XP, and I even tried simply pressing every key on my keyboard to see if they would get picked up. Is it simply not picking up input? Or is something in my computer likely to be blocking it?

I'm no expert and JM will probably be around soon to answer... What os are you using win10? Where did you install bg?
Any way if you installed it in program files with win 10 that is probably the problem.
Do you have any other mods installed? If you have a long list post your weidu log

I'm using win10 and BG is saved in a separate folder on my hard drive from Program Files. This is the first mod I've started trying to install. I was trying to follow  this guide: https://web.archive....ate-experience/

ToBEx... that's a thing.

Specifically, I am talking about the fact that you can install the setup-ToBEx.exe onto your game, and that will take input and so forth like a normal mod does. But it by itself will not do much. Except it will change the games files so it starts a CMD when that starts. That CMD window is there for multiple reasons, much of which the user needs to not know, as it's are meant to alter the game and let it do it's thing on the background... which leads to possible thing you see, as the window could stay open when you shut down the game, and it takes no input, so you end up with an extra dos like window, that will be there everytime you start the game. Just leave it thewre until you quit the game and only then close it via the rex X at the top right corner.

What Sir-Kill is very likely refering to, is he talks about the innitial setup-ToBEx.exe run... to find out what happened, you should be able to see the setup-ToBEx.debug file and open it with Notepad*, and if you have no idea which file that is, make sure you have enabled the file extensions in Windows to view them, so you can be sure to open the right file with the intended tool(Notepad).

*and copy paste the text in the file to a post.

Without that, I can't be sure, but what could have happened is that you have variaty of mods, and those can have different weidu.exe versions under them. And it might not be able to update the weidu.exe you are currently using called setup-ToBEx.exe to the latest version that the others are. It might happen for variaty of different reasons. What fixes this is to just delete the file in current use and copy one of the other setup-modname.exe and renaming it as the setup-ToBEx.exe... yes, the setup-modname.exe are all the same program, just named so they take orders from setup-modname.tp2 ... that's the file that actually what says what the program does for each mod, via command line promps, well advanced command line promps, but still command line promps.

... and what is elluded to, is that the Windows 10 has this unreasonable outset that it knows better than any of it's users and likes kinds in a sandbox, so it puts everyone in the same sandbox, so they won't be able to re-overwrite the existing files, aka potentially damage them. But that's exactly what is needed for mods to do their things, so, if you use the C drive, you need to install the game to the users own folder, located here:

C:\Users\<windows user name>\ ...prefereably something you know is yours, say "Games" or what ever your language uses for that term.

WTF? " Unzip the archive directly into your BGT Directory and run “setup-TobEx.exe”.

As far as I know it goes in the bgII Soa directory.

That is where mine is an works perfectly.

I think it's just Windows 10 not wanting users to use anything besides web browsers, to be honest. I should probably be spending my time learning how to use linux, not trying to play Baldur's Gate for the fiftieth time.

Hmm, you sure the window is active ?

As in, the os could flash something in the background and thus turn off the Dos -looking window to not be the active window anymore, and so you can't interact with it actively unless you reactivate it by pushing the border in the window, but do not push the red x, but somenear the x though. Antivirus could very well do this for example, or other things. Cause this sounds as if the window is just not active.

That was the first thing I thought was happening, but it didn't change anything. The window was active, and I made certain the cursor was flashing.

Hmm, the GoG page (at least to my region) doesn't seem to feature the non-EE BG2 anymore, so you sure this is a BG2, and not BG2EE, in which case you don't need ToBEx, but in some minor cases the EEex.

Absolutely certain. You get the original games automatically added to your account when you buy the Enhanced Editions.

I tried both lmao. Starting to think I should just give up on my main computer. Maybe this is the time to dig out the win7 VM.

Are you sure that the file contents (Setup-TobEx.exe and TobEx folder) are in your bg2 (where your chitin.key is) folder and not the bgt folder? I do not see why a keystroke would not register. Have you tried any other mod?

I triple checked the folder, yeah. I did install easytutu before I found the guide, but I uninstalled it afterwards, and the easytutu page said it shouldn't break anything to uninstall. I've got to go visit my parents for my mom's birthday soon, but I'll be making a win7 VM to mess with when I get home. I'll report back with my findings.

Well if you hit 'enter' to close when you uninstalled and did not click X to close the window.

Ok so you know that at least weidu does work with your current machine, right? Try a tiny mod like dungeon be gone

Direct Link

Might just be an installer/download issue if not I might be out of ideas.
