I think the closer.bat's are deleting half of my dialogue.tlk

I've done 5 installs.  The first I completely borked.  The second and third were missing 150k of 430k strings in dialogue.tlk.  They were just blank.

 

So, for the fifth install I only installed BGT and Finch NPC (she's in Candlekeep's opening area) and commented out the closer1 and 2 lines.  I was not able to talk to her or any other mod created creatures on the second and third installs.  I got a dialogue window, no speech (Finch is voiced), and no options - just numbers (the outline from sufinch.dlg) no strings.  I could click away at numbers until eventually I got to End Dialogue.  Also, I could only load BG2 from inside GemRB on the second and third installs.  BGMain would start up Tobex and nothing would open.

 

On the fifth install, with no closers and only BGT and Finch, Finch worked fine.  The game loaded fine in both GemRB and BGMain.

 

What's happening to delete half my dialogue.tlk?  I tried uninstalling LOLfixer on the third but the dialogue.tlk never came back.  I tried to --change-log dialogue.tlk but it only gave me a single line in my output log.

 

I'm now going to try to do my full megamod, with the closers commented out.  Would someone smarter than me take a look at my weidu.log and my individual.bat and tell me what I am doing wrong?

It also might be the SmilingImpCrossBanter pack which keeps failing to install and then uninstalls may be deleting my dialogue.tlk.  That just occurred to me as I was setting up my 6th install.

I know of no occurrence where uninstalling a mod or a mod install failing would delete entries from the dialog.tlk. I do know that a failing install could lead to mod ressources not being removed properly, and that running a mod installer while the game is running or used by an editor (not NI) can lead to the mod strings not added to the dialog.tlk.

 

What is the error message for SmilingImpCrossBanter pack? The mod was updated by Austin & Co so this would be of interest.

Gosh, I don't remember the error now and I deleted the earlier installs already.

 

This is bizarre.  I omitted the Smiling Imp Banter Pack completely from my Big World Downloads folder and my dialogue.tlk is fine.  The mod NPCs on the first map all have dialogue and I don't have any giant gaps in my dialogue.tlk.  However, I can't run the modded game from BGMain (it works in vanilla), but I can run it in GemRB.

 

Then I ran the closer.bat's manually and it still won't load from BGMain, but it will load just fine in GemRB and all the mod NPCs still work after the fixers, so it wasn't the closer.bat.

 

Whatever caused SmilingImp to fail and uninstall itself is what caused half of my dialogue.tlk to null.  

 

Bizarre.  Anyway... finally time for 10pp Imoen!

Nope.  I did another install because spell casting and NPCs walking off screen was causing GemRB to crash.  This time I omitted SmilingImpBanterPack, anything that modified spells or spell animation and let individual.bat run the closer.bat's automatically and almost all of my modded dialogue.tlk disappeared again.

 

The closer.bats are definitely causing me to lose the context of almost half of the strings in my dialogue.tlk

 

The game still won't run from BGMain.  ToBEX opens and nothing happens.  Could anyone offer any advice on how to get the game working from BGMain?  

 

It still runs in GemRB, but spell casting still causes the game to crash even after removing almost everything that would affect spells or spell animation, but I will ask for assistance over there for that.
