Is it possible to add a custom avatar to BG2 without overriding any of the existing ones?  For example, can I recolour one of the dragon avatars, and assign this new avatar to a single creature, without affecting anything else that uses that avatar?

I don't think so.

You can make an item which changes the colours of a creature, and assign it to the one you want, though. I don't know how many of the avatars it works for, though.

In the ANIMATE.IDS I think it is there are two basilisk entreis, two MDK entrie and a grey beholder entry that can be used.
The grey beholder can be fixed and used
The basilisks can be used if their animations are ported frokm BGI
The MDK entreis can be overriden as you see fit.

However, also looking at the engine with a hex editor gives a list of creatures that can be added as they have residual traces from IWD. There's a list of these in TBG.

how come you always look so damn cool in every photo I see you in?!?

Speaking of modding, I listened to IER 3 yesterday, so you can have another quote for your signature: how come you sound so damn cool, as well as look it? It's unfair. Seriously.

If you replace an animation don't you have to check the sequences match up? ie you couldn't replace one of the static commoner animations with a walking, fighting casting one.

Yeah, they have to match up. <_< I have once attempted to replace the commoners with the PS: T commoners (who have both attacking and casting animations), and they didn't work. :(

As far as I know, that animation was meant to be used by the Death Tyrant (undead Beholder) variation of Behlders. I wonder why it was left out in the end...

This thread might come in handy. It's a work around Max came up with that allows unlimited new animations. (Sorta/Kinda)

As for recolouring, you could just assign an item that uses either the strong/dark RBG colours effects. Works the treat.

Sorry for the big bumpage, but as TeamBG is down... can anyone help on this one?

I'm especially interested in this workaround ^_^
