I just started playing BG 2 and when I was frantically trying to pause I must've hit a button that turned my mage's spells off (my priest can still cast) it came up with "mage spells off" or something to that effect on the log. When I go to cast the spells icons are there but are dimmed red not allowing me to select them. Any ideas on what button I pressed??

Are you wearing armor? Did you memorised them?

Another question - what does it mean when a character becomes "encumbed - can't move"? How can you get them to move again?

It means you're carrying too much for your character's strength. And this is not a game bug issue to be dealt with in a Baldurdash pack. Let's move it somewhere more appropriate 'eh? *click*

Don't worry about it. Reading the manual is generally a good thing to do before you submit a "bug" :-)
So, go read the manual. Or better yet, do the tutorial that comes with the game.
