Hey!

I had thoughts that it would something different to make a very exclusive Mod for a NPC which was already in the original Baldur's Gate.
My favourites are for example Khalid and Safana. I like this idea more than those to create completely new characters!
Maybe Khalid would be a problem since he is a little "busy".
For example it could be possibly that Jaheira was fales and a Cleric resurrected Khalid!
What do u think! ^_^

A few of BG1 NPCs where brought to BG2 by separete projects and they are listed in this thread:

http://www.shsforums...?showtopic=4902

BGT (Baldur's Gate Trilogy) allows the uninterupted paly from Bg1 to BG2, using all the characters and infamous TDD brings back all of the characters. I know that Horred at one time was interested in finding writers for fleshing out TDD's zombies.

And of course, any other project that brings in Bg1 NPC into BG2 is a great thing, since as they say in the old country "one old friend is better than the two new ones."

Safana is one of my favorites too but she met her end near the end of bg2, I was going to mod her into bg2 anyway (plenty of time between start of bg2 & forest encounter)

possibly change the outcome depending on PC dialogue option, however there was no interest, bit too much to write it on my own.

1. Pure class Thief possibly changed to an assassin (hate kits tho)

2. fresh out the reason for the bounty on the PCs head or forget it completely, all seems a rush effort by bioware to kill off another npc..sigh

3. many flirts/banters, maybe not a romance but that could be interesting -she could dump pc randomly bit like viconia heh

4. chaotic neutrals a great alignment.

Do you suppose that Melissan may have put a bounty on the PC? She'd just be hoping to get lucky there, not knowing that Irenicus will have stolen the PC's "divine essence" and also not foreseeing how useful to her the PC would turn out in ToB. Either that or, if a PC thief has gotten the thief stronghold, Safana could have an old BF among the Night Knives who has let her know that she'd be none the poorer if the PC stopped breathing. As for the werewolf bit, either delete it or put Skye (in the role of Coran) and Eldoth (in Safana's place) there as substitutes.

Safana's reaction to Salvanas, the womanizing twit in the CC, should by itself be enough reason to let her tag along.

That could be a good story arc, cant imagine irenicus/safana dealing somehow
but mel thats a different story that could lead up to TOB (bounty then bhaalspawn attacks on pc), plenty of routes that could be taken, female yoshi style rehash or completely original plot, Involvement with the shadowthiefs/ night knives, maer'var are also good devices :)

Do see couple of problems stat-wise someone could easily get +1 int from machine in WK change her to a mage so maybe INT needs lowering, the game doesnt need another imoen T/M dual or does it?. What to do with Coran.

Other than that it would be good to have a HUMAN thief that doesnt die
:D Female voiceset 2 screams out something, portraits already in place

If Coran doesn't snuff it over the wolfweres in chapter 6, leave him to Domi. She's a major Coran fan and does him very well.

Thank you for the compliment, Hendryk, but Coran-BG2 is not something humanly possible for Domi to do. :D

Coran is present in Tortured Souls, and Vlad was long looking for a writer for Coran, so that's a very real chance for someone to develop Coran-BG2 with an already sorted out werewolf scenario.

Well a designer easter egg npc iirc near the circus has khailds voiceset..erm
maybe it wasnt him in the dungeon & jaheira walks on by without a word to this guy :D

Khaild would be the hardest to add with the jaheira romance taken into account
wraith in TOB so on.

Montaron possibly being the easy one to work with, the bodys intact
could be ressurected.

Xzar, without altering the harp plot heavily dont see how it would work, maybe a replacement zhent instead of xzar dying.

Ajantis, fairly easy, someone sees through the illusion when ajantis is "near death"
other knights have been slaughtered being a condition.

Tiax, very easy since the script kills him off - he could just make it

Faldorn, hard since you/jaheria/cernd have to kill her off to complete the trademeet quests unless its done the evil way.

It has been discussed a number of times and remake of some easter eggs, and replacing the actors in anothers (ie Faldorn being just one of the druids, not the boss) is possible. On another hand, the more characters you aspire to add to BG2 in one shot, the more difficult it becomes, because you increase the interparty interaction dramatically, since you have to count original 17 PLUS whoever you add.

We have been discussing it before in BG1NPC project, when HC wanted to do a transition mod from TUTU to BG2, and frankly, even being a fanatic of BG1 cast who lost ALL of her favorite characters at the transition to BG2, and ended up with the LEAST favorite ones transfered, I was pretty much freaked out with the amount of writting that will be required. And that *after* seeing BG1NPC written.

Just wanted to elaborate just how serious such an endeavour is, and how difficult it would be to make it seamless and interesting, without simply adding 25 more talks about Valygar's hate of magic and 25 - about Aerie's wings even if it will be from the unique prespective of BG1 character.

Domi makes an excellent point. With 25 NPCs, even with probably more than 30 people pitching in at one time or another, it has taken 16 months for the BG1NPC project to advance to beta. If you're serious about adding BG1-only NPCs, much better to stick to one or, at most, two personal favorites.

Edit: changed 24 to 25 :)

I wasnt sugguesting otherwise, it would be a tough job
but it doesnt have to be done all at once or by the same author/team, one at a time - a rush job would only result in flat npcs. It would be nice to eventually have all the npcs restored instead of the game forcing you to accept their fates, they were just examples of what could be done.

Safana could be a great start - one I would download, yoshi's great but I like female thiefs if only for the pleasing animations B) chaotic neutral/flirty char are other reasons, she was always my key thief in bg1, often either didnt take imoen at all or dualed her to a mage as the only mage. I play bg2 alot, I mean alot everytime I see a bg1 npc meet their end in bg2 it gets frustrating, as im sure many felt towards the npcs they lost in the transition, but many have been remade
in some form or another but not safana

Theres also alot of npcs in bg2 I dislike /or dont find a use for:

Keldorn - imo wrong alignment/class anti-drow, trying to murder viconia
no matter how hard I try I cannot ever have him in my parties so that leaves what paladin? none

Mazzy too

Aerie has become repetive

Jan, yeah hes nice pickpocket entire shops etc but beyond that I never took him past soa or even to hell/TOB.

Valygar, I just find him dull - katana's I usually give to imoen

Anomen, always cleric'ed out often serves no purpose, dont dislike him tho

Minsc "again" says it all.

So any arguement that theres too many npcs in the game cant be true, many people have their favorites/dislikes all different - nice to have alot of choices

So any arguement that theres too many npcs in the game cant be true, many people have their favorites/dislikes all different - nice to have alot of choices

The argument is not that there are too many NPCs in BG2, but that it will be increasingly difficult to incorporate many *more* NPCs concurrently and interactively.

Example: If you only want to add Safana in, you will have to write as a minimum:

17x2 banters initiated by Safana = 34 talks

17x2 banters initiated by other NPCs with Safana = 34 talks

5 (SoA) banters with PC+ 2(ToB) banters with PC = 7 banters

Tree of Life (SoA), Various interjections.

Total > 80 pieces of dialogue

Now, to add BOTH Coran and Safana:

18X2X2= banters initiated by Coran and Safana with Bioware's NPCs AND each-other = 72 banters
18X2X2= banters initiated with Coran and Safana by Bioware's NPCs AND each-other = 72 banters
Tree of Life (SoA), Various interjections. X2

Total > 150 pieces of dialogue.

See what I mean?

The above reason is why I wouldnt do it :D

I've modded countless games but I never enjoyed it much - it felt like work.
as a bg2 player I wouldnt mind these npcs even without "banters" which would reducing the work quite alot, I see banters as optional not required - valen didnt seem to have any, just injections.

BG1 style handling - apart from key moments

Only Dialogues being - Join/depart/tree of life/epilogue

This leaves the options open for someone who feels like it, to add banters/polish later, atleast gives everyone a chance to have their npc continue the adventure
on after bg1 instead of nothing at all. In the vain of the "one day npc project"
if you see what I mean.

I see that my thread (Safana) some helpfull thoughts!

But i have a little feeling that domi has something against adding
a BG1 NPC into the game. <_<

But domi is right that it would tkae much time adding f.e. Safana!
If a completed team takes this it would be faster finished than if only
one man takes all the work. -_-

Guest 56 is also right that for the beginning only a few dialogs are needed!
:)

As I was always playing with Safana in BG1 it would a good idea to choice her
for a "little" mod!

Erm...you left me wondering how you come to this conclusion. I outlined what a person might want to take into an account when re-developping a BG1 NPC for BG2 and how it would be different from implementing a few NPCs at a time. Moreover, I have suggested a contact name for coders who deal with BG1 NPCs in BG2 and provided a reference/ideas from an earlier held discussion on similar topic.

Ok!
Sorry, then I've interpreted ur comments wrong! :(
My mistake. But I thought that ur post was slightly sarkastic so that
I thought that u don't believe that it's a good idea to make such a
mod!

well let us know "here" if you ever start something, I could do abit playtesting/dialogues -

Eldoth didnt meet his end as far as I know (in game info atleast)
he was just one that didnt show up again like shar-teel, skie etc that is why I didnt list him above, was thinking of "killed off for silly reason" npcs :D unless sarevok
knocked his head off - did anyone die in that final battle of bg1?
