is Tiamaat the same as in D&D the cartoon because in the cartoon it seemed neutral rather than evil

No Tiamat in FR is lawful evil (and lives in Avernus, the first layer of hell if memory serves me right)

I suppose you mean the first layer of the Abyss, not of the Hell.

No, I mean Hell (or Baator), why would a LE god want to live in the abyss??

Altho reading my original post i should probably have said level of hell rather than layer of hell.

You're right, Arachnos, I thought you're speaking about the Abyss because it seems quite risky for a deity to live in an place where another (Asmodeus) has absolute power. It could happen to her what happened to Waukeen.
BTW, what is the relation between Asmodeus and the deities who live in Hell ? They answer to Asmodeus, perhaps, or they just tolerate each other ?

Well with the new FR cosmology it aint a problem as all the gods seem to have 'acquired' their own planes to live on (which just happen to be identical, but seperate to where they were previously).

Lloth is the common example, she used to live on the 66th layer of the Abyss (the demonweb pits), but now in FR (and backed up in book 5 of the Spider Queen series) she's up'd sticks and moved to the Plane of the Demonweb Pits.

-----------------------------------------

Before FR messed up it's cosmology I'd assume that all the gods that made there homes in Baator got up to what they wanted to (which invariably means messing with the prime material), while they let the Big A do what he does best (which is rule hell)...

If i was playing a 3E campaign that used the old cosmology I'd give Asmodeus a (virtual) divine rank of 20 in hell (which would be enough to be all-powerful in his home, which is what he is).

Oh cool, I didn't realise they had made it a free download. For Duty and Deity was one of my favorite modules... I have no idea why I ever gave it away. ><

Anyone know why jergal stepped down as od of the dead before Mykrul and why he doesn't seem to care that he's dying/being forgotten?

Or has he any special plans?

Actually, Bhaal and Bane also inherited their portfolios from Jergal, not just Myrkul. The explanation for why he willingly handed his portfolio over can be found within BG2 (BOOK36.itm to be precise) :).

But who and what are the seven lost Gods or can you point me to where the information may be, thanx

You be surprise how motivating boredom is --- and it's strange results

"Do you know how much that turns me on, Ki?"
"Maxi! I'm trying to be serious here!" -- Maxi and Kilik

I assure you that the ability to view our futures can become a bore. Even to be thought of as a god, as I certainly was, can become ultimately boring. It has occurred to me more than once that holy boredom is good and sufficient reason for the invention of free will.

Not so strange. I've read countless stories where gods and other incredibly powerful beings have given everything up due to sheer boredom. It's pretty much a fantasy clichè.

Right then. After a little bit of checking this is what I've come up with.

There are 2 theories.

The first is that the lost gods are the ones that are named in Pools of Radiance, and that they were all servants of Bane way back. These are:

Maram of the Great Spear
Haask, Voice of Hargut
Tyranthraxus the Flamed One
Borem of the Lake of Boiling Mud
Camnod the Unseen

The second is that the lost gods are:

1. Jergal
2. Garagos
3. Moander
4. Shaundakul
5. Ghaunadar

and possibly Silvanus & Savras.

All these had their centres of worship based in the Westgate area (and have either died, or are in decline, or have been in decline)

Of course, neither of these theories fits in with Bhaal, Bane and Myrkul killing one of the seven lost gods before obtaining their portfolios from Jergal.

Then again, I'm not sure whether that's established FR lore or just something Bioware made up.

You're right about that. I seem to recall that Borem might have been the victim in question, but then that does'nt tie in him being 1 of the 5 that served Bane.

ie, how do you kill a god when you're a mortal who then serves you when you're a god.

Unless, how about rather than Bane killing one of the 7 lost gods, he simply subjugated him (stealing some of his divinity in the process). In fact, perhaps Bane did this to all 7, reducing them all in pwer to demigod status while at the same time boosting his own power??

Come to think of it, I seem to remember one of the TSR/Wizards guys saying they are actually *two* sets of seven lost gods or something... ;)

Well, the first set of lost gods I posted were from the Pools of Radiance series of CRPG's books and modules.

The second set have been pieced together from details on the Realms mailing list supplied by people like Eric Boyd and George Krashos (who do FR design work for WOTC).

That would explain the 2 sets..
