The Damage Modifier in the Damage vs. Bonus is how much damage to add or subtract from the type in question.

For mages, you'll need to use a STATS.ids Identifier type in the Damage vs. Bonus.

There are two ways how to do that. You can use Damage vs. Creature Type modifier or use 'Use EFF file' effect with the resource of damage effects. In both cases you have (for Damage vs. Cre type or for Use EFF file):

param #2: 5 (class.ids)
and param #1: 202 (mage_all) or 1 (true mage)

I recommend you to use DLTCEP where you can switch parameter style to IDS style and you can check then whether the numbers in parameters are correct.

well, you can download DLTCEP. It has included fresh effect descriptions as well.
IEEP is quite outdated now...

The updated effect descriptions are here as well: http://iesdp.teambg.net/
