Friendly request: Both points have been made. From here on out, please stick to Overused Ideas in the BG series, and start a new thread for discussing Racial Issues in the Forgotten Realms.

So listing how many traits your characters have is allowed even though the original post didn't ask for it, yet discussing suggestions made in the thread is not? Sorry, but I fail to see the logic in that .

EDIT: and just so this post is on-topic, another concept which is beginning to be over-used is the character who's facing some kind of moral and/or religious crisis.

Nightmare I see your point and I tried my best not to make me sound like the people who make these games racist. I do not think that the makers of the games are racist, I just think that there is a lack of um... perspective?. I just notice that many games are white dominated. Sorry for causing so much trouble. I concede. I was wrong i guess.

Now on topic. -Evil NPC mods being theives. Yeah there is a lacking of Evil NPC's in BG2 but come on we don't need a bunch of evil theives as are only choices to balance things out. Where are the evil warrior mods

Kinda linking the races thing back on-topic, almost all mods which add new locations to the BG series, and all the Aber-Toril based TCs, only add Faerunian-based locations - Tortured Soul's Kara-Turan island is the only exception I can think of.

It's about time we had a mod featuring somewhere in Maztica, Zakhara, the Hordelands, or Kara-Tur, even if it's just a brief side-trip ala IWD2's visit to the Chultan jungle...

I love the Chultan jungle bit. ^_^ I'd really like to see a game based somewhere around there.

It's true that most of the FR campaigns take place in the north western end of the world. They miss so much of the good stuff.

I read about the Hordelands in the game sounds like an exciting place to go. Hey could i get a link to a map or something of the whole of Faerun.

i've got the map, physically, but there's no way I could ever scan all this thing into one image. It's huge.

To give you an idea, most of the games produced all take place in only maybe....1 fourth ro 1 third of the entire FR world.

FYI "Forgotten Realms" just applies to one continent, not the entire world :). As well as all the places detailed in the various TSR/Wizards sourcebooks, there's still a large part of the world that's been deliberately left unexplored. IIRC the Maztica campaign so far only takes place in the Northern American equivalent, there are no details of what's further south.

IIRC Wizards confirmed there's an Australasia equivalent too, but it's never been officially detailed, and has yet to be discovered by anyone from the Realms or Kara-Tur. Come to think of it, a "discovery of the continent XXX" TC could be quite interesting :).

Come to think of it, while the Realms in general may be over-used in area adding mods/TCs, Icewind Dale in particular is really bad - two games, two TCs and two SoA add-ons are set there, either in part or in their entirety.

Regarding races, I am not just making a point on aryan races, but I don't see as fair amount of sub-race NPC mods under development vs. prince(ess)-charming human/elf NPC mods as I would really like to. There are a few exceptions such as Krondor and various LoI NPCs, but there are only a few of them.

Another un-original idea is having perfect-body-sexy-type NPC's; some even for non-romance NPCs, and mostly for romance NPCs. You don't have to have an ideal body for an NPC-romance mod. Speaking of which, I'll quit whining right now.

Heh, it seems 6 games/mods with Icewind Dale in them isn't enough, as yet another one as just been announced :).

Except TDD, none of them are completed modules.

Snapping at that is almost like getting upset about all the quest mods that add stuff into Athkatla. In that case, it's not really overuse unless the two mods are virtually identical.

Eh, Icewind Dale 1 and 2 aren't complete? :P Also, the Icewind Dale part of NeJ is very much complete - judging from the most recent posts by Vlad, future parts will apparently deal with other locations, such as Halruaa. The Icewind Dale part of ToIW is also pretty much complete, though of course that isn't publically available ;).

How is a post which begins with "heh" and ends with a smilie in any way 'snapping'? You're being rather over defensive there. I simply thought it was funny that only a couple of days after I mentioned the strange popularity of Icewind Dale in mods and games (besides Icewind Dale 1 and 2, it also featured in the old Menzoberranzen game), another mod based around it was announced ;).

Must've confused TDD with NeJ. :o

Eh, Icewind Dale 1 and 2 aren't complete? :P

Are they modules, as I have mentioned earlier? I won't be too literal on this. :P

Although I wouldn't classify TDD as an IWD mod, it also includes some IWD areas, btw.

Yeah, TDD was one of the mods I was counting ;). Actually, one of the mods I thought was a TC is actually only an add-in, so the line-up looks something like this:

Games featuring IWD: Icewind Dale, Icewind Dale 2

BG2 TCs featuring IWD: Tower of Iron Will

BG2 add-ins featuring IWD: The Darkest Day, Neverending Journey Part 1, Region of Terror, Heart of Vengeance

I think basically my point if you're going to add new areas to a mod, I'd prefer them to be based somewhere we've never or rarely been to before, rather than somewhere we're over familiar with. Sure there are places in Icewind Dale that haven't been touched by any of the games/mods, but they're pretty much guaranteed to look similar to places we have seen.

At least in the lands surrounding Baldur's Gate/Amn/Tethyr/Calimshan there's a wide range of geographical features - mountains (snow covered and otherwise), dense forests, open plains, swamps, desert, numerous styles of towns and cities, etc.

A mod that covers the cloudpeaks and fill's in Amn's wilderness as well as some areas in Tethyr would be very nice. I know LoI covers all these areas, so I might as well do the SSP part for you, NiGHTMARE. :P

Speaking of places what neither of the mods cover might be places to the east of Amn or North of Baldur's Gate (north of the Fields of the Dead, since we all know of a BG1 mod that covers that area).

Human, Half-elf, Elf NPC's with the ideal aryan appearance and race. 90% of the NPC mods seem to be about those types.

-Galactygon

Black elves just don't sound (or feel) right....

In middle age Europe there were no black or yellow people.
This might sound racist (hell..today anything sounds racist since people are so touchy), but I DON'T wanna see them in the game in greater numbers.

Faerun =/= medieval Europe. <_<
Ihmeellinen meri

Kummalliset kalat liukuvat syvyydessä,
tuntemattomat kukat loistavat rannalla;
olen nähnyt punaista ja keltaista ja kaikki toiset värit -
mutta ihana meri on vaarallista nähdä,
se herättää tulevien seikkailujen janon:
mitä on tapahtunut sadussa, on tapahtuva minullekin.
