Topics I've Started

Valen, lots of Valens

12 November 2008 - 01:27 AM

I am in the Undercity going to the final fight with Saervok.  Just walking around the UC for a look around and ran into three Valens down there.  The fight started off and I think three became five.  I thought Valen was part of BG2?  Should she even be down there at all?  Needless to say, I reloaded and am staying away from that area altogether, it's almost more than my party can do at this time.

Is this part of some mod, or is it a bug perhaps?  She's awfully damn hard, even just one of her, let alone five Valens.

More Information on Invis Stalkers

07 November 2008 - 10:28 AM

Okay I had the friendly stalkers spawn in, while playing part of I think it's the Vault, mod where the book incident happens and you have to go chasing the guy down who took the book from you prior to going to Candlekeep.

At that time, on the way south to Friendly Arms inn chasing him, I know he summons these guys, none of my guys did, and I reported they were showing friendly, as part of my group.  Well I finished out that one, went on to Candlekeep then get the quest to go back to Bonehill.  At least a week if not more shows going by, I finish out part two of bonehill, I am once again on the same road, to go back and pick up a party member that I had dropped to take Fabio in the bonehill mod.  As I am walking down the road, I meet up with my 'old friends' the Invisible Stalkers, three of them, who have have gone with me to the FA.

This is just a bug report, nothing more.  I don't really care one way or the other if they are there, I assume they'll stay there when I go on .. just an FYI

Secret of Bonehill part two a lot of spoilers

07 November 2008 - 10:12 AM

Okay this was my part two play through:

I go to Restenford.  Pick the quests up from the mage, and take Fabio with me.  Wanting to get started I did NOT go see the cleric in Restenford but went direct to Garroten.

I go for whatever reason, my play style?  FIRST exploring the area, Martin is there and I talk to him, I tell him WHY I'm there.  He runs off to the house, I see the other 'named' Lothar, for what ever reason I lie to him.  I go to the temple, the inn, the theater, tell them all, see the beggar and talk to him, though he's AFTER the inn.  They all refer me to Martin(except the beggar) who now has nothing to say. All the cut scenes work great.   Besides them, I have gone into almost every bldg as well talked to the stable boy also.  All this 'information gathering'.  Once again a usual pattern of play in a mod like this.

While at the inn, I wind up talking to some guy sitting there, don't remember his name, I get a LOT of information, this is before I have talked much to Oscar and co. who haven't told me much at this point anyway.  Somehow I do know this guy reads minds or something, I don't know HOW I know this but it's in the dialog option, I pick it, and spills his guts about everything he knows, which is a LOT.  So then I go over to talk to phony captain, and say I know who what he is, and he runs out, I go out and attacked by him, Oscar and co and some other rogues.  So no assain's grotto, that entire part of the game, ceases to open up, which is fine.

I finish clearing name of the priest there, and the bard, well get Wilbur's story, and the inn keeper.  I don't know how I know to suspect the stable boy, the option just 'appears' somehow in a dialog and I take it.  Then I go talk to to stable boy.

All this is done, I go to the Lake up north and the lizards.  Do that, there's NOTHING else to do, no of the npc suspects can/will say more, nor does Martin.  Thus far they have not been arrested, but I guess nothing to trigger that?  Though Lothar, who has been exposed and fled and is at the castle doesn't say anything?  I can't figure out why then it doesn't trigger Ascue for me to come have a talk with the mayor.

I take things into my own hand, and go to castle myself for a talk, have one, then leave. I go back to town, soon as  zone in, I'm ambushed.   I wait out some hours, the main suspects have been arrested. Which is good. Wait and wait some more hours, including travel to Restenford, to the lakes, trying to get Ascue to spawn in and tell me the thing is solved, in other words, word from the mayor.  For what ever reason that seemed never to happen.  That's when I posted in the boards, was there an area south I am missing that I needed to go to.  I decided WTH when I got home from work last night.

I go to the castle again, wanting to move things along.  I go back to try to talk to mayor and her cleric about why she has these guys prisoners.  NOT her or cleric or Ascue as anything to say.  SO I go on up the stairs, knowing this is going to make them angry.  I clear it out, collect evidence, free prisoners.

I go back to the town.   Get the lady I found fixed up.  Martin and the priest I rescued have NOTHING more to say, on plot stuff, the priest nothing, the druid says nothing he hadn't already told me. SO I go to the inn. THEN Ascue teleports in when I walk in.  HE tells me the mayor has picked up the suspects and found the guilty ones I need to go home :).  Yea I'm thinking, ORLY?  Given that everyone is dead.  Next I talk to the innkeeper, he starts in on a dialog I NEVER heard before, we have same cut scene I had the first time where he walks to the fire, and lot of detail that pertains to events going on in town, even though I rescued him and all that's over.  I decide to rest talk to the guy at the bar, have a dialog option to call HIM a spy, do so but the innkeeper himself, stays for ever more focused on pre arrest dialog.  With two out of three acting that way, I don't bother even going to see the bard.

So I go back to Peltin.  Tell him what I have and he sends me to the cleric there.  Well I get the dialog from him that one would have gotten if they'd talked to him BEFORE going to Garroten.  I try zoning out, resting, all of it, I NEVER get an option about him being behind the murder.  SO WTH, I decide to try a restore scroll on him and see what happens then.

I never like attacking neutral npc's for fear of factioning problems which is why I always try provoking them first. I thought it would cause him to go hostile.

Well when I use the restore scroll on him, immediately his dialog cuts to the 'what have I done' one.  And we teleport to Peltin.   And the mod finishes out.

As I said I was able to finish it in a manner of speaking.  IF everything worked liked it should it would even be a wonderful mod, better even than the first.  As it was, it's so messed up.  I have a save just prior to going, and I'll try playing through again, now I know more or less what is going on, and more or less the order it MUST be played in, and more or less what MUST be said, for this thing to work like it should.  BUT if that's going to be the case then you really need a better walk through!  Way to many ways this thing can break down if you do NOT follow a certain, specfic order.

I hope the bugs get worked out someday, this is a great little mystery mod, and well written one at that, if only, it worked like it should.  As it is now, it's just a mess.

IS there an area south of town or not

06 November 2008 - 11:01 AM

Okay I am in part two. I have cleared the innocence of all three suspects. All three keep sending me to Martin. But I talked to Martin when first getting there, and he ran off to his house and doesn't say anything more, even with the suspects sending me to him.

I have cleared out the lizard cave, I have a marker that says 'south of town' but I go to it and nothing at all appears, everything that is there, really is north of town, and only two areas I have are the castle and the lizard lakes.

Somehow I never managed to reveal real reason I was in town to the wrong person? I did start a fight inside the inn, talked to the phony captn and so on, an ambush was sprung outside the inn, killed Oscar and those guys hanging out inside the inn. Were they supposed to give me a location south of town?

Otherwise, I don't know what else to do except go to the castle, tell the mayor I am investigating the murder and go back to town for now?

If there is an area south of town, that is germaine to the plot of part two, how do I get to it.

I have since starting this managed to find an IRL job after looking more than a year, don't have all the time I used to, and frankly I have tried every where and way I can to find out if there is an area south of town I need to go to. :D

The Vault

01 November 2008 - 01:07 PM

I am finishing up this and that before finishing BG 1, my party is lvl 9.

This re The Vault Quests

One says can be completed by any lvl party including a lvl one and is called The Vault.  I have no idea how to or where to begin it.

Second one is the quest at the vestary.  I killed that deamon and the guy in the Lathandar temple gives me the quest to kill the other deamon.  At least I understand now why the dawnbringer goes hostile when Edwin is in my party.

All he says is that the deamon is in some 'ruins to the east' of Bergost.  I stopped at Ulcaster and at Firewine.  I didn't see anything, but I was trying to do this quest before taking off to work, it had said it was a short quest for a lvl 7-9 party so sounded playable before work.  This is as far East as I've been.  Durlag is on my map further east, and been there for some time, but don't want to even go there til I finish out the main plot for one.

Is this place the Lathandar cleric talks about, over at Durlag?  If so I'll put it off.  If it's at Ulcaster, I've been the area around Ulcaster and back under there and nothing, did a quick check of Firewine.

I've goggled this, and done a search there really is no through walkthrough and don't know where else to look for either quest.
