Topics I've Started

Forrest Fentan

08 March 2007 - 07:05 PM

Gee, I can't believe that it's been over three years since I first proposed this.  Of course, now that I'm back playing BGII-SoA again, I just can't seem to stop writing this character.

Alignment: Neutral Good

Class: Thief

Race: Hin.

Stats: To be decided.

Story Concept:  Forrest is in Athkatla searching for his missing mother.  He is torn between family obligations.  His mother trained him to be a master thief.  However, he is past the age at which he is expected to marry and settle down as a respectable hin.  Complicating matters, Forrest is gay, a badly kept secret amongst his family.  Good or neutral male protagonists can romance Forrest.  Bedding him will be easy, keeping him after the Slayer will be harder.

Personality: Forrest tries to keep things strictly professional.  Dialog options will modify his feelings towards the protagonist to devoted friendship, and possibly romance.  He will immediately warm to Imoen however, seeing her as similar to his younger sister.

Production Plan:  Rather than tackling bits and pieces here and there, I've decided that I can develop this in three phases.
Phase 1: Banters with Bioware characters, friendship dialogs, interjections, conflict with Mazzy, and finding his mother.
Phase 2: Dialog-driven romance script, modified romance interjections, and romance conflicts with Bioware NPCs
Phase 3: A romance-specific quest in Trademeet involving multiple characters.

Each phase should be a standalone and playable NPC mod.

I've done a ton of background writing, most of which will not appear in the final script, but which is necessary to write the final script.  I'd rather pare down too much material than to not have enough to work with.

Family History: The first cousin of Mazzy Fentan, Forrest lives a life of cultivated anonymity.  His mother Maggie Freefoot, and maternal grandfather, Digger Freefoot established the local thieves guild.  The "Free Traders" prospered by protecting local merchants, conducting "salvage" missions from area monster hordes, and establishing a truce with the Athkatla Shadow Thieves.  During the Iron Throne affair they successfully raided Iron Throne caravans for good iron and steel.  Most are devoted worshipers of Waukeen, as the goddess of markets white, grey and black, and subscribe to a particular heresy that she is hin as well as human.

It contrast to the Freefeet, the Fentans are (mostly) solid and respectable, townhins, following the ways of Cyrollae and Avoreen.  Frederick Fentan was critically wounded on his first and only adventure, and saved from certain death by Maggie Freefoot.  When she returned from a misadventure obviously pregnant, he proposed marriage, an arrangement that was disliked by both families.

The family:
Father Frederick (NG Fighter 1)
Mother Maggie (CG Thief 18)
Crazy Aunt Waukie (NN Cleric 7)
Older Sister Flora (NG Bard 5): "Long-boned" (human)
Younger Sister Foxglove (CG Thief 3)
Uncle ?? (LG): Father of Mazzy
Cousins Mazzy and Pala

Right now I have a bare-bones framework that gets him into the game, and banters with a few characters written.  (I was aiming for 2-3 for each Bioware NPC, and an extended conflict with Mazzy. I don't know exactly what is realistic.)  I also have a few short stories for character background.
