Essential Charms (Spoiler-free)

02 July 2015 - 06:29 PM

B r e a k i n g   N e w s: A lunatic mage's victim rolls a successful save against Charm Person!

Do you remember situations in BG in which charmed NPCs revealed those extra tidbits that you could brag about to your classmates back when it was still cool? I used to have a nice list of those; now it's all but lost and forgotten. And I guess nobody would feel like DLTCEPing all the dialog files just for the lines. That would be just lame.

Let's reminisce in a collective attempt to make a neat and spoiler-free list of all the people one might want to cast Charm Person at to grab some funny or interesting pieces. This might be helpful for those playing for the second time, looting virtually everything -- including words.

These are from my current BG1 playthrough:

Xzar

Dynaheir

Viconia

(I really wanted to put Safana on the list, but no cigar. :crying: Well, OK, maybe just to build up one's self-confidence, heh)

Nimbul (this one is famous for a reason)

Centeol (infamous for a reason...)

Iron Throne big-shots: Rieltar, Davaeorn

Sonner and his fishermen pals

Yago

Marek

And last but not least, my personal favorite, the mystic woman herself... the nameless Cloakwood Mines cook! Yeah, baby!

There's more coming... What do you guys remember? Let's stick to worthwhile info, not necessarily all the possible dialog lines.

Cloud Peaks Lore

13 February 2015 - 12:44 PM

I'm in the process of collecting material for a quest-mod set in the mountain range known as Cloud Peaks. While ideas come and go during each of my long walks in the dark woods nearby, I'm a little short on actual source material for this area.

I currently have Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast and Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, but the Cloud Peaks are almost completely neglected in these books. I'm totally out-of-date when it comes to AD&D books, so I would require your assistance.

Does anybody remember reading anything about this region anywhere in slightly more detail? Any books that describe the lore of its surroundings?

Projectile Sound Effects

28 December 2014 - 06:08 AM

Just something I've noticed. Normally, both BG1 and BG2 play either WAV or WAVC files without any issues; the two formats are interchangeable. Recently I've been playing around with projectiles and from what I've gathered so far the engine only plays WAVC-encoded audio files; in other words, if my sound is WAV, it won't be played when the projectile is fired. This appears to be true for both BG1 (hardcoded projectiles) and BG2 (externalized). I've been trying to figure out why some of my projectiles play sounds and the others don't. Can anybody confirm that I've nailed it down to the audio format?

Also, a small request. Since the BG1 projectiles are hardcoded, it's rather tedious (but possible; I'm doing it right now) to find out which spell projectile plays what sound. Does anybody who's worked with BG1 projectiles have a reference list of appropriate sounds effects? I couldn't find it on the IESDP, and BG2 often uses different sound effects for .pro files.
