I was watching the last episode in Season 3 of Angel the other day and I got to thinking that the Groosalugg would make a nice addition to the NPC roster of BG2.

At the end of Angel Season 3, Groosalugg realised how deeply Cordelia felt for Angel, and told her that he was leaving, because she loved Angel more than she loved himself. It was more of a noble thing, him leaving and he said he'd been struggling to find the courage to 'do what is right.'

Groosalugg (meaning 'Undefeated' kinda guy, I think) is a very strong fighter, excelling in hand-to-hand and fighting with all manner of weapons. He's kind of a mix between a Barbarian and a Monk, I'd say, which makes it hard to decide what he'd be. He's rather Chaotic but at the same time has values that he sticks to, like a Monk, in a way. But you can't really have a Neutral Good Monk/Barbarian, it seems a bit tacky to me.

I thought that, since he never appears in Angel again, that it is plausible for him to be in a new dimension, and provides a nice mix between the two multiverses. He could be searching for a new love ('princess') or could be just looking to cleanse this place of evil. I think that he probably couldn't stand being on Earth where Cordelia, whom he believed to be his true love kinda girl, loved another man (Angel) more than himself.

Here's a coupla pictures of the dark blue eyed guy:

Short Hair

Groo was quite a comedic character, due to the fact he had little idea about the way Earth works, and talks kind of like a child just picking up the language.

Cordy: "Hi. What you got there?"
Groo sets the tray down: "Well, I know you had grave concern for Angel's welfare, so I made some Mock-Na."
Cordy: "Oh. Mock-Na. Which is..?"
Groo: "A soothing brew to relieve tension."
Cordy: "Ah. Kind of looks like muddy water."
Groo: "Yes! (Picks up a mug and smells it) The mud gives it body and flavor."

Groo: "And might I further relieve you by at first gently then more rapidly rubbing your Schlug-Tee?"
Cordy: "Ah, I don't really... uhm. Maybe later at home."
Cordy whispering: "I don't feel comfortable doing *it* in the office, Groo."
Groo: "Doing 'it?'"
Cordy: "Sex."
Groo: "Oh, you wish to have sex?"
Cordy, throwing a quick look around: "What? No! Shh!"
Groo: "I was proposing a massage of your Schlug-Tee, your tense neck muscle, but - it is always an honor to make sex with you. (Smiles then leans closer and whispers) Later, at home. I understand perfectly."

I was thinking he may start out in the Mithrest or some other upper class tavern/inn trying to recruit people to battle the forces of evil, though the Nobles in there obviously don't like that idea, and he instead gets a few young noble women swooning over him instead. When he sees the group enter he could notice their weapons and armour and ask if they need any help if they are adventuring. Course the PC could say Yay/Nay and he would go off somewhere if they say No. Maybe next time you meet him battling something outside of Athkatla. If Yes then he joins ya and stuff etc etc.

Groo tends to get along with most people, and I don't think he'd have big issues with anyone in the group, as long as they are helping the PC on his/her quest.
Strength-wise, I think he'd be in the high 18s, seeing as he is stronger and better at fighting than Angel (a vampire) is. Dex and Con should be rather high too, whereas Int and Wis are low, but Cha should be quite high too, seeing as he's supposed to be very attractive.

Well anyway, is this a good or bad idea?

Errm...

Well, despite the semi-cheesy cross-over orgin, he already has more personality the the other 50000 "kewl half-demons" mods out there.

Мы должны как раз дать эту хромающую страну к русским. Они awesome! Идет Nader! Кустик и Kerry имеют придурковатые weasels в их кальсонах!

Agreed, Half-Orcs came to mind first.

Then the name could bring up an interesting topic of conversation. In Angel the Series Cordelia thought that the Groosalugg was a monster when she first heard that she had to mate with 'it' and tried to escape the castle. It was when she saw him that she had second thoughts.

Sounds like a good idea, but people who never watched Angel will have no idea about any references to the show that could be made for added humour. But still, he wasn't in Angel for a long time, long enough for people to get a good idea of his character, but not long enough to have him firmly set in the Angelverse.

Also, since he doesn't know that much about the enemies in Angel, like Wolfram and Hart for example, a lot of the Angel-related talks could go out of the window. He could have some nice new made up words though, smiliar to Schlug-Tee (which Cordelia thought meant vagina, lol, but meant tense neck muscle).

He's like Minsc but without Boo and better at speaking, as in he won't say "The Groosalugg thinks you fight with HONOUR!", he'd say something more like "You are indeed a fierce warrior, Charname. I am reminded of the <insert really good warrior kinda guy/monster here> from back home."
