I've been having a very strange problem. Every time I am in either Beregost or Nashkel, my computer just randomly reboots. No errors, no warnings, nothing. It doesn't do this in the other areas I've been to, although I haven't gotten far in the game. It's very annoying because I'll be in either of the cities and 15 seconds later my computer reboots automatically. It only happens outside of these cities, not in buildings, and it happens if I am in dialog with someone, or not. It's really weird because it is totally random. It's happened about twenty times already. I have an athlon xp 2000, 512 ram, and it never does this when I run any other applications. It seems like my computer hates the taste of Bp-BGT-NEj. :( I've also tried CTRL-ALT-DELETE and close all the processes that aren't Win XP related, like Avast Antivirus.
Any ideas on what may be the problem? Any ideas on what tweaks I may try?
I have all compatible mods installed, and haven't encountered any bugs in my game so far, so I don't think it's bug related. It seems unlikely my install is bad... but who knows?

I sure hope I can fix this, else I'll have to try the dreaded reinstall of this monster-mod.

YAY!! A post that says so much yet so little.

actually, i don't think it's these mods. i was playing the game before i had ever heard of mods, probably thought it was a disease, and that happened to me sometimes. so i don't think it's the mod.

i could be wrong though. it wouldn't be the first time....(i should put that in my sig).....

I can't imagine it's because of mods, that your computer restarts, one thing that can cause your computer to restart is it being to hot and your motherboard automatically reboots, to protect it from overheating. But i also can't imagine that bg2 is taking up so much cpu, what exactly are your comp specs?

Have you done a thorough viral/spyware/malware/etc. scan? It's more likely to be overheating, but it pays to be careful :)

Thanks for the good ideas. I think it might be overheating, too. I've had problems with that before, but after I used Arctic Silver as a thermal paste, I haven't had problems till now. My system specs are :

Athlon xp 2000 (Not a tbred :( )
512 MB ddr 2700 ram..
two 40 gig maxtor Hd's
Radeon 8500
Shuttle Ak35Gtr Motherboard

I've tried checking for viruses but got none, and I've run an updated Ad-aware check and deleted all the spyware. I'll try downloading a system temp monitor program and see what temps my system runs. Thanks!

Shouldnt have any problems with heat on that system if the fan is mounted properly. Unless you're one of them overclocker fools, that is.

Also try checking your power supply, that might be a reason as well.

I think I've fixed this! If anyone else has a problem with their computer automatically rebooting in BG, running Win XP , then try this :

1) Right click on My Computer Icon, click on Properties
2) Click on the Advanced tab
3) Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings
4) Under System Failure uncheck "Automatically Restart"

This seems to have worked for me, as I have travelled back and forth between Beregost and Nashkel, where it's been rebooting, and haven't had any problems.

It's been rebooting in those two cities, not when I travel to each of them. Sry for the unclearness of my sentence. Also, I do too find it very weird... Perhaps it's because I updated to service pack 2 a couple of weeks ago?

Huh. Now I'm wondering why travelling from one are to another would cause a system failure. I'm not a computer expert, though, so maybe that isn't as bad as it sounds. ;)

At least you didn't get the error message listed first on this page (the free Java one):
